Well, you cannot add weight if you wish.

I can see them getting mashed easily.

They will not be as durable, one of my tractors has tyres over 20 years old and still fine.

What do you do if you rip some ribs ?

What will happen if your in a clay bog and trying to get out, will the ribs cope ?

All fantastic to do a video on tar with new wheels and controlled env that is not too harsh.....

Frankly I would rather have solid tyres on my tractors (and near everything else) and a good suspension seat !

...Chains is a third way. I have/do utilize all three. I hate chains. I've only ever had the ladder type chains. They do provide superior traction - they ride like a COB. I no longer use chains. If I were to go back to their use - the European style would be my choice.

The 4-link ladder types are the worst...but also the least expensive in my experience

I considered tweels for my zero turns, but the cost vs benefit was not there. As far as skid steers, they do appear to work well in the video, but I have not seen that technology in tractor tires.
While some posts seem very slanted about weight, I do agree that weight is the number one factor in traction, with tire type and/or chains coming in second.
If I had to consider soil compaction my opinion would be slightly different.

To simply answer the question....

Weight is NOT the only option being offered for increased tractor. You are picking and choosing what you read if you truly believe that.

Weight, however, is one of the most effective ways to increase traction

What may be more accurate is actual ground pressure.

We all know what happens with a lot of weight on the rear to our steering

I had to take fluid out of old inter tractor and other Jap one, frankly, they perform the same with R1's as far as I can tell, maybe even better when I have been in a clay bog trying to get out....shrugs.

It is not just weight, there are other factors to consider as well. If your working in a gravel pit and slamming a bucket into material, then just add weight, as much as you can, no worries.

Heavy weight is a friend and a enemy, today heavy agricultural equipment packs the soil and damages growth and drainage. Not easy to solve as farming today is cost and volum focused.

There are projects that focuses on light equipment in combination whit automation, swarms of machines that operates 24/7 instead of a few large.

Correct me if I'm wrong fellas but I think a lot of the weight discussions are coming up in regards to counter balancing the tractor for loader work.
