The local news told us a few days ago about a five year old being airlifted to hospital from the helipad in our town. Now I hear that is was the son of a friend, and "it involved a snowblower". I know nothing more than that about the cause of the accident, and I don't want to! As a 28 year firefighter here, in addition to all the other calls, I have attended two snowblower accidents, three lawnmower accidents, a PTO accident, and a tractor rollover. All involved serious injury - not always the operator. The one thing in common with all of these accidents, was that the machine was being operated by an adult.
I'm glad to be retired, I've had enough of those type of gut wrenching emergency calls, I just wish that they would stop happening entirely because operators prevented them. I'll be going to a funeral for a five year old....
