MK Martin Meteor Snow Blower

I am also a MK Martin 72” snow blower owner but mine is designed to work while backing up. This is my second season using it and so far have only sheared one pin and it was very easily replaced. My opinion it works very well but I do wish it had a better shoe system to make it easier to prevent picking up gravel without leaving to much snow on the surface I’m trying to clear. Paid $3950.00 for the blower setup and delivered with hydraulic chute swivel and tilt .

My tractor is also equipped with hydraulic top link which works very nice but it’s very easy to mistakenly move the top link when not
wanting to.

A forward pull blower definitely has some nice points but I definitely wouldn’t want to not be able to back through the big snow bank at the end of my driveway and several other places, so far it has always been able to do that very easily.

If you purchase a set of armor skids for your snow blower you will have a better
larger heavier skid system that will last much longer.

All that is needed is to remove a skid measure the distance between the mounting holes in the side weldment and look for the skid you need on the list for farm tractors. If you are not sure or have questions Bob can answer them for you. He helped me a great deal with finding the right skids for my snow blower.

if you are still sucking up gravel you can mount some edge tamers in the middle third of the snwo blower width having them welded in place.

I solved my gravel problem on snowblower, by getting a front blade. Now I felt safe putting the snowblower on after I have a solid frozen base. Only 2nd winter, but haven't had any problems with my SB68 P/T

When I had a blower I always did a FOD walk down my mile long driveway before the first snow. Saved blowing a whole lot of shear pins.

However - without fail - the first run always blew a pin or two. Mainly large rocks or limbs. You run with the "lip" too low - you will scrape up and blow gravel. Experience will improve your results.

MK Martin Meteor is one of the better blowers.

Just info on the Meteor blower.
My unit came with an Electric chute rotator and the motor crapped out after two years from corrosion. After some research I found a better replacement option than paying Meteor over 400 dollars.
The motor is essentially just a winch motor (2000 lb) same as Superwinch uses and You can buy the entire winch unit for under 80 dollars. Drill and tap two holes and it is a direct replacement.
Now I always have a backup on standby for when the next motor croaks.
And then last year the control switch unit died so I simply wired in the winch control as a replacement.

Just a quick update. We got hammered with snow these last few days. I have leveled the blower, meaning that the scraper blade is (mostly) parallel to the road surface. There is a good base layer of packed frozen snow. No more, or very little gravel is being sucked up. The small amount is likely due to the chains on the tractor kicking them up. Two nights ago, I was out blowing and sucked up a branch that apparently had fallen from the trees. The sheer pin for the auger, the secondary smaller pin, broke. The fan kept spinning, but the auger stopped with the branch sticking out of it. Back to the shop and 10 minutes later I was back in action.

So far, I love this thing! WAY better than using the FEL or box blade. I did look at putting a pipe or something on the front edge, and maybe that will happen when there isn't a frozen base down, but as of right now, I've cleared the driveway maybe a dozen times, and have gone though two pins. The cutting edge rides on the base layer, and the blower works great!

Thank you to all who have posted! I was hesitant to go this route, but glad I did.
