My question is how long (years) do battery packs last and what do they cost to replace.
We don't put many miles on our vehicles, but tend to keep them a long time.
My pickup is a 1991 and my wife's car is a 2005.

This covers a lot of the points that has me wanting a Tesla over anything else. I pretty much decided something comparable would have to be about $20,000 cheaper to change my mind. I want full self-driving to help me hang on to my keys if the kids get over anxious. :)
At the moment it looks like mercedes is number one on self driving

A Tesla with the LFP 300 mile range battery pack is expected to be good 4000 charge cycles. In theory that would be a 1.2 million battery but to be on the safe side since that's what I'm looking at I would divide that by 2 and expect to get 600,000 miles out of the battery and my case that would be 20 years at least.

Battery warranty is good for up to 8 years so I would take a hard look at the health of the battery after 5 years and make a decision were to go for the long hall or maybe trade it if the battery is declining at an unexpected fast rate. Should the battery fail in 7 years and you got a new one theoretically that would make you good for 14 years.

EV batteries are the tail that wags the dog and are continuing to improve in life expectancy and drop in cost.

EVs are about 10 years away from the peak price/performance ratio I expect. I hope to get a new one every 5 years and pass the old one to a family member.

………The move to EVs as we know in the USA needs no federal and state funds. People will buy Evs when they meet their needs at a lower financial cost over the life of the vehicle.

Exactly, many of us are just waiting for the right product to present itself.

F150 Lightening...
I believe it’s ”F-150 Lightning”.
An “F-150 Lightening” would be removing the spare tire, back seat and having only a couple gallons of gas in the tank to make it faster.

Buy it.
Zero maintenance involvement.
Use it till the battery becomes an issue.
Ditch it.

EVs don't seem much different than cell-phones....
