We are facing a new wave of automation, a wave that will kill so called safe jobs, accounting is a fine example of this, a lot of jobs in public sector will be automated, jobs that has demanded high education.

How do a society handle a world where a large part of the population have no hope of getting a job? How do you distribute resources when people can't sell time for money?

It’s called Universal Basic Income (UBI). Sounds good in theory but then so does communism.

I took a trip to NJ a few weeks ago. Where i was is NOT like CA at all. The word 'hillbillyville' is the closest one-word description i can think of.

Where were you in NJ? What towns(s)? County? Far north? South? I've been around a lot of it and don't recall anything like hillbilly country.

Agreed, but in the 'no jobs' scenario they're envisioning the UBI covers your entire cost of living. As long as people have enough for rent, cat food, and their cell phone they don't need a job or hope. That's the whole idea.

As the job market changes, people need to re-tool/upskill/become educated in high demand/high paying jobs. Sadly, too often instead of adapting to change, they turn to opioids, alcohol and domestic violence.

Tell that to a 50+ year old working in an industry with a bullseye on it and 3-4 kids in college.
Tell him to retool and upskill.

Better to invest in yourself than to be rolled over by a changing economy. I don't think that at 50 you are too old to learn.
