I gotta ask at what point does one go from amateur to pro?
Is it an apprenticeship program or do you hafta be drafted by a pro organization.

On the other hand I remember my grandparents finding a slug in their car roof after nye in FL.

The only exception was the year of the Y2K farce. I happened to wake up just in time to see the new year in, so turned on my GPS just to watch it self implode. The only oddity that year occurred when I got my 35mm film developed... for some reason my camera had taken a picture of the ceiling.

Heh. I was at some friends' house that night. They had the tv on, and we were watching the ball drop. 5-4-3-2-1-whoosh, the tv picture went to snow. Everyone was laughing & cheering, host rather disgustedly walked over to some control box, pushed a button and it all came back a few seconds later.
Turns out he used one of those big satellite dishes, and had it on a timer to dump at midnight so snow didn't accumulate in it. Guess his timer was dead-on! Was good for a laugh though.

engaged in a specified activity as one's main paid occupation rather than as a pastime.

Reality:

Doesn't mean you're good at it.

Wow, you can get paid to do that. But if they will pay someone millions of dollars to chase someone else with a ball I guess anything is possible.

I don't get it. Why would anyone throw lead up to the clouds to celebrate the coming of the new year? Ya can't kill them and even if you could it probably would taste pretty bland. Fire crackers would scare them away cheaper and safer.

I worked with a guy who had been sent over here from HongKong for college. Then as Britain returned HongKong to China, his family emigrated all over the world so he stayed in California.

For his first New Years here in the Land Of Freedom, he bought a big hunting rifle so he would have something to shoot at midnight - off the balcony of his college dorm. In the city. He told me he had done this each place he lived after college, all urban. I tried to convince him this is dangerous and I think I got him to stop but he was sincere that he had never thought about danger to others.

He had lots of money and some peculiar ideas. First thing he bought when he started college here was a restored Dodge Charger similar to the General lee he had watched on TV. He had never driven a car before. By the time I knew him he drove an immaculate Toyota 4x4 pickup with big offroad tires. He said he had never driven it off pavement so he wouldn't get pebbles caught in the cleats.

Yep... a medical rep from London transferred to the Bay Area was in total disbelief at the gunfire and fireworks saying posted signs say both illegal...

Her first intro year in SF Bay Area...

She also never owned a car and had a car allowance... her choice... a triple black 4wd F150.

Being slight in stature she loved every minute behind the wheel and posted videos to her friends back in England...
