Left turn on 2 lane. Stay in R/H lane or L/H to let cars continue on?

B. I’ve had people do A and it makes me nervous even if I know what they’re doing. I’ve also had people do A when I was coming head on towards them, they had time to turn but it was close enough you’d start to worry.

B. Safety is about being predictable. If the person behind doesn't want to slow down they can just as easily go around on the shoulder. Then it's their fault if something happens.

I think that another concern with A is to ensure there is no cross traffic anywhere close at the intersection.

If you have good visibility in all directions, and there is not another car in sight (except for the one behind you) then it sounds like you are dealing with low traffic/stress driving conditions. It shouldn't be too much of a trauma for that car to briefly slow down.

I had never even heard of A, and I also vote for B.

Legally B. What happens if you do A, and there is a need to get back over to the RH lane quickly? Now you have the person that was behind you there. Bad idea.
He is likely doing it like i do - waiting until he can see all directions before he gets over. Thus, there is never a need to get back over.

Only an animal entering the road could happen and then it is simply like one entering if you are in the proper lane and there is an oncoming car. No different.

Can you ALWAYS see down the road you are turning down? What if the sides are covered with trees and someone pulls out in that oncoming lane? Your answer might be “I only do it if I see its safe”, and that’s a mistake. You do it 100 times, then the 1 time you decide to go for it because nothing has happened in the past…bites ya. I know you think you can see everywhere, but its still a risk. Better to not do it at all.

No matter how you cut it you would be "driving on the wrong side of the road"...and in doing so it is violating the right of way of anyone that may enter that lane in right direction...

It's not unheard of where there is a solid yellow center line where someone exiting a driveway can turn right onto a highway while only looking to the left to make sure their lane was clear...they would not be expecting a car come at them in the wrong lane....(different story if passing is allowed)

OK, i will try again: YES, i, and i suspect the OP, CAN always see down the roads we do it on. If we cannot see, we don't do it at that intersection.

I doubt anyone does this just as a matter of course at every turn. I don't think that is what the OP meant.

There's no way that I would do "A", for the reasons given. My coworker- now my boss- is Mr safety ****, yet he does the "pull into the oncoming lane to make a left turn" onto my road. It scares the crap out of me every time that he does it, because my road is a narrow gravel town road, plus you are turning directly down a hill so may need to stop and wait for somebody to get out of the way. Meanwhile the state highway is also a downhill passing lane, so there is a good opportunity to get rear ended by a car who is trying to pass.
(It's actually illegal in this state to pass on an intersection, but the guys who paint the lines haven't gotten that memo.)

The law says to stay in your lane; if you're worried about somebody rear ending you then go down the road where there's a safe place to turn around, then come back. Or pull over beforehand and let traffic clear. Again, in that case nobody really knows what you are doing so the best plan is to put on your blinker before you start braking, to let everyone know what you intend to do.

This discussion has me questioning whether we need bigger brake lights or brighter turn signals.

Or maybe bigger windshields so drivers can see what's happening in front of them.
