Hot topic among friends and family here. So, . . . What do you all do?
No oncoming traffic, someone behind you, you're about to make a left turn off of a 2 lane road,
Do you;
A) turn left blinker on, merge into the left/oncoming lane to let the driver behind you continue on, then turn?
or
B) turn left blinker on, stay in the right lane forcing the other driver to slow down to your turning speed, then turn?

For me, A! It's a no brainer. Common courtesy. Surprised that I freak out passengers when I do this. And pi33es me off when I need to slow way down for others that don't.

Really common to do A around here, but only if there is someone reasonably close enough to make a difference. Our roads are narrow enough that pickups are right on the outer edges of the asphalt when passing each other too, so..

If you go into the oncoming lane, (Choice A) I'm NOT going to pass you. I'm going to be wondering what you are doing and that you might be suddenly returning to the proper lane.

A) As long as you can clearly see no one is coming down the road you are about to turn onto and therefore might turn right into you.

Legally B. What happens if you do A, and there is a need to get back over to the RH lane quickly? Now you have the person that was behind you there. Bad idea.

Only B.

A will get you a traffic ticket if observed by law enforcement. It's also stupid and anyone that does that needs to have their license revoked--If they even have one. 😏

I live on a 2-lane state highway. The speed limit used to be 70 but was lowered to 60 a few years ago. I've had Jack-Wipes try to pass on the left when slowing and with my turn signal on. No need to add to the idiots out there. Stay in your lane.

I would say A but I don’t merge into the oncoming lane, I just start my turn a bit earlier than normal so I can get off the road.

I do a variation of A in a different situation. When turning left from two lane into two lane, there are places where I can see a long distance to the left, but not to the right. I'll turn into the wrong lane and speed up while watching my rear view mirror to make sure no one just popped over the hill or around the curve before I move right.

Yes, there are risks, but these are roads I know and am aware of any driveways.
