Good Morning!!!! 72F @ 5:45AM. Sunny. High 94F. Winds S at 5 to 10 mph.
AQI is back up in the 130s this morning, but better inside since I left the filter running all night. More and more evacuations related to the Dixie Fire are being lifted, but the smoke from the lightning fires to the northeast seems to be getting worse.

Is that a woodworking shaper or a metal cutting shaper, Ron?

Just goes to show you, RS, one man's trash is another man's treasure...

More trench filling, and got most of the spoils from the run up the hill processed through the grizzly. The result was more gravel than soil, since most of the material was rock. The rock pile is now bigger than the tractor, and with a couple retaining walls in my future, it will come in handy as back fill behind them. Used the last of the sand, which I've been placing as a first protective layer over the plastic pipes. Tried to order more, but the trucker I've been using says the local quarries are out. How can all the local sand and rock quarries be out of sand? Looks like I'll be spending some time on the phone this morning trying to round some up.

Happy Hump Day, folks!

66°F and cloudy this morning, only going up to 82° today. Storms started passing through the area yesterday evening. Wife got stuck in a one-way-in-one-way-out neighborhood by a tree that brought down power lines when it fell across the road. She sat there for two hours before the power company showed up and moved the lines so the city could move the tree. More passing storms overnight woke me a few times. Going to make this a long day, but we needed the rain.

We are still considering a mid-size pickup to replace our F-150, Roy. We simply don't need a full-size truck. Looking at the Colorado/Canyon and Tacoma. Like Randy, though, we're kind of waiting for the market to normalize again.

BEF, I saw a couple of deer, a doe and a youngster, standing in the ditch in front of my neighbor's place when I got home yesterday evening. They jumped and ran almost immediately. First deer I've seen in a couple of weeks.

I know a couple guys with Tundras..both complain about the (lack of) fuel economy even with no load in the bed.
The Tacoma averages economy in the low 20's MPG range. Mine, around 21 to 23 MPG on the average. The tradeoff, of course, is capacity for loads. Since my truck has no load in the bed 80% of the time, it's a good trade off. If I need more capacity, I rent a trailer. I'll buy a trailer one of these days...something big enough to handle the Gator should do the job.
My Tundra gets over 19mpg on most tanks...although I have a soft foot on takeoffs. The new '22 Tundras being announced Sunday will have a new V6 engine offering, I believe...one that is set to handle a hybrid.

Yep, you can always rent or buy a landscape trailer (or similar) if you need more cargo space.
I'm considering a trailer...just trying to decide if I want something large enough to haul the Gator 855D

We have a 5x8 utility trailer that my Wife bought before we were married. It hauls our mowers when a repair shop visit becomes necessary.

Good afternoon, rain is finished for a few days and the sun is out. With no lambs to mither the ewes and lush grass up to their belly's, the sheep are as happy as can be.

PJ, fantastic pictures. The Crystal City web page says "Crystal City Underground has been closed due to flooding, except for the kayaking... We are working on flood control measures" . Yikes, you must need a lot of faith in both your guide and the weather forecast before paddling down there ! My days of working in deep coal mines are thankfully long behind me, it would take an awful lot of money to get me underground again - hope they paid you well :)

am trying to cancel 2nd shed, apparently somewhere in route to Philadelphia warehouse and location unknown, over a week past due date.
Home Depot has same shed for 300 dollars less and likely uses same shipper.
Might almost be easier to drive over to NJ and pick it up myself with a friend's truck and trailer.

Getting up to 90 again today.

Prayers said for John, and BEF's wife.

Roy, I got a 5x10 trailer when I bought my 4Runner back in 2001. Still use it quite a bit...have had to replace tires only once. It's not big enough to haul my tractor, but I haven't ever needed to do that...if I ever do, will rent something. Snowblower sounds like just what you need for your frequent 3am clean-ups in the winter.

RNG, cool going that deep "underwater" at your lake. Our nearby lake had a big dry up about 20 years ago during a drought, but there are no canyons like you have...the drought just left a mile of sandy/silty beach at the upper end, with some stumps where it was timbered before building the dam. It still had the river flowing through the middle, but reduced down to a stream.

Roasted a new coffee yesterday...a Kenya...letting it rest until Friday before trying it. Tried a new jelly this morning on an emuffin...Sassafras Jelly.

Yeah, the guides talked about that during the tour. They have a pump that maintains the water level, but it's getting old and is near it's capacity anyway. So, they've ordered a new and bigger one, and are awaiting it's arrival.

I asked about any navigational markings in the various chambers and tunnels, and they told me there are none. They said occasionally someone will wander off on their own from the group, and it can take them hours to find them again. The only person who actually knows the whole place is the guy who runs the kayaking operation. He handed me a map of the place when we were leaving, with the tour route highlighted. There are various points and features that are numbered and in a legend with a description, but none of that is actually marked in the mine. So, you either know where you are, or you don't.
