I love these bump out feeding stations.

Back to the original post: Weird. Looks almost like a door to let deer jump in/out. I wonder if he is planning pig/deer drives with dogs to herd the animals against the fences for hunting? I also don't get fencing two sides differently than the remaining two.

I have never seen anything like it.

I'm with Doug, looks like stabilization for the fence. I've seen similar structures on long fences, the "ladder" looking part keeps the posts vertical and you can pull from either direction for tensioning.

On another note, most of the people on TBN would be good neighbors, but some of you....

Are there wild hogs in the area? Does he own the lan on both sides of the fence? Why do you think he is done fencing and not going to do the areas with barb wire?

It's a gate of sorts, that keeps in large animals (Horses, cows etc). THe upper part stays fixed while the bottom can be removed to allow smaller animals to travel freely.

Ranchers here are required to have these to allow migrating animals to travel unimpeded in migration corridors. Deer and antelope are the two animals this benefits in my area...

I have gates like that around my vineyard, although they are one piece gates.
The purpose is to keep deer out of the vineyard. Towards the end of summer those vines look green and tasty to hungry critters.
