"—in 1630 the area of forest land that would become the United States was 423 million hectares or about 46 percent of the total land area. By 1907, the area of forest land had declined to an estimated 307 million hectares or 34 percent of the total land area. Forest area has been relatively stable since 1907. In 1997, 302 million hectares— or 33 percent of the total land area of the United States— was in forest land. Today’s forest land area amounts to about 70 percent of the area that was forested in 1630. Since 1630, about 120 million hectares of forest land have been converted to other uses—mainly agricultural. More than 75 percent of the net conversion to other uses occurred in the 19th century."

I read a study from somewhere that the number of deer is higher now than the 1600.
Not sure how much faith I put in anything that’s “estimated”.
Seen that word used for nefarious reasons too many times.

Where I live we have gone from heavily wooded, to deforested for farming, and now back to heavily wooded. I have seen hundreds of arial pictures taken all the way back to the early 1900’s from bi planes of endless farms in my area, now overgrown with mostly junk trees and brush.
We have a very famous local artist who painted farmland thats now engulfed in boxwood, junk tree-of-heaven and endless swaths of Japanese hops and ornamental stilt grass.

So in MY area, the deforestation trend has reversed. We probably have almost as much trees as we had here hundreds of years ago.

Beside the fact that there is no solid link between the planet's temperature and CO2.(other than models using tainted data)...
Also there there is no direct link between a slight warming and extreme weather...i.e.,floods, tornadoes, blizzards, hurricanes etc...
In fact the last two hurricanes/ tropical storms that made landfall on the US were both downgraded before making landfall when there was opportunity to intensify prior...

Rain falls in Greenland for the first time......

Why is it called Greenland if it's covered with ice? and what's Iceland covered with?

Interesting article. And that is the paradox of CO2 based on geologic history, the global warming has consistently preceded changes in CO2. We all talk about climate change denials, but many climatologists themselves are in denial, and will not allow paleontologists, geologists or geophysics to peer review their research papers.
Climatologists or any scientist or researcher can't dictate who can peer review a paper they wish to publish. Their associated institution decides that.

Actually, I surprised you said this. From my experience, very limited peer review of documented research for publication is conducted by an authors Academic Institution. And is mainly occuring at the Department level by close friends, associates and coauthors who he directly chooses to work with.

The bulk of a scientific paper being peer reviewed, really occurs at the publication level, typically by other experienced authors who are familiar with the subject research. It is here at the publication level where a majority of the peer review process is occuring. The Publication has a vested interest in sharing reliable, ethical and accurate scientific research. The original author has no choice on who reviews his paper. My comment was related to cross discipline peer reviews, which may or may not be conducted by a Publication.

Exactly what is it you don't understand about using tainted data and how it effects credibility...??

one more time...opinions and subjectivity do not make facts or "proof"
Tainted data? 99% of climate scientists say it is not tainted.

I would suggest avoiding group think and going along with the crowd.
Usually when “99% agree” on a controversial subject, there’s something wrong.

I was taught in school that it was named that before they explored inland, because near the ocean it was green.
