He got a 5700 hour 261HP tractor for about $50,000. Probably not that excessive for 1,000 acres but my guess is the implements are much smaller than the tractor can handle.

I see what you're saying. It is 1K acres, but the fields are small, 50 acres +or-, so turnaround space is important. And the tractor doesn't fit in various places he needs to go and so on. In the US, it probably wouldn't seem excessive, But the hired hand's tractor makes a good deal more sense.

In totalitarian England where one must be a member of the union to farm he probably can not merge smaller fields into larger without an Act of Congress.

If his implements were sized to the tractor he wouldn't have to turn around nearly as often.

Did the math on how long it would take to mow my 250 acres and quickly talked myself out of a 10' cutter. Never tempted by a 261 HP tractor, but Clarkson paid about what a new 70HP with FEL goes for here.

Yeah, I really like him on Top Gear and the Amazon specials, but in this show he shows a bit more likable and emotional. While still being funny and showing the reality of farming today.

The show has only been on a month or so. Bureaucracy moves slowly. Problem is if they haven’t been filming then they have missed the 2nd growing season. Missed how 1st season’s decisions affected the next. At best now they pick up with the 3rd growing season under Clarkson’s mis-management.
