A new beginning but a tough way to go about it. That's a lot of burn and damage. Hopefully the grasses and brush can hold most things together.

This morning was more like normal here. 59* @ 6AM. The house is all cooled down in preparation for this afternoon heat blast.

Roofing on a hot summer day is another job that takes a better man than I am.
i hear ya. I worked as a helper for a roofing company the summer I was 19. Once was enough, more than anything else it made me buckle down and finish college. Maybe that makes me "soft".
Sure was in good physical shape that summer though!!

I roofed my new garage addition last year. Hauled them all up by hand. It was hard but felt really good accomplishing something.

I had my wife, early 20's daughter and her future husband do the concreted pad while I drove the tractor to bucket the cement in from the driveway. It was hard... on them. 🤣

I made sure to feed and water them afterwards. ;)

I can relate. I did more than a few roofs in high school and college. I remember the heat, the salt tablets, and being absolutely crusty with dried sweat at the end of the day. I do reminder how much better the shingles went on when they were hot. I never did any barns though. That is a whole other level, though I am sure techniques have improved a lot.

Definitely made me realize that my strong suit wasn't bucking shingles up on to roofs and nailing them down, though it was fun and certainly got me in better shape. I always think roofing is one of those glory jobs. Houses look so much better afterwards.

We are getting a mini heat wave; it was 81F at seven this morning, (vs 56F normally), and supposed to be mid nineties later. The weekend is forecast to be even hotter, but nothing like what the PNW went through.

All the best,

Peter

To tell you the truth, I turned 60 a few months ago and I still feel like I'm in my 40s. Maybe 42. I am fortunate and I know it. ;) About the only aches and pains are minor joint pains. They are more annoying than painful.

I'll tell you my truth. I'm 79 and with all these hot days - some times I feel like I'm 150. All this heat really saps the strength out of me.

The heat has peaked today at 90F. Now on its way down - 88F. Won't be long and I'll be turning the fans on. Got up to 76F in the house today.

Well - CRAP. This morning the heat is gone but now it's smoke. I could smell whiffs around 5 am. Now its full blown grey/blue haze.
