Would anyone on here own a new Ram HD with the 6.4 Hemi? How are you liking it? Any issues?

My neighbors son has one. He said it was a choice of the higher priced Cummins Diesel or the 6.4L Hemi. The 6.4L Hemi did meet his needs like the Cummins diesel would have, at a better price. He tows a much heavier load than my RAM 2500HD 5.7 Hemi would. His is a dually with a gooseneck hitch in the bed.

I had a 2017 Ram with the 6.4. I traded it for a Ram 3500 dually with the Cummins. No problems with the 6.4 just not enough for me. Very strong engine.
I pulled a 10000 pound camper plus everything added in the camper. The bed of the truck would be loaded with bicycles and coolers.
if I get to where I don’t need a diesel anymore I would go back to the 6.4

Thanks. I really like the Ram HD, don't need a Diesel. And now with the 8 speed auto, mpg should be decent.

87 Octane. I have the 6.4 (2018) and it pulls my 12K dump just fine. Not as fast or as hard as a diesel but does it without any issues or drama.

My FIL who lives with my wife and I just bought a 21 with 6.4. His last truck was a 05 F350 6.0 diesel. He says the RAM is larger than the F350. He loves the fuel economy, getting 18 mpg. Loves the acceleration and power, 4.10 axle ratio. Just towed 11,000 trailer load and said there was no lack of towing power, even up 8% hill. He bought a Tradesman and it has everything he wanted in a truck. The price was hard to swallow, but that’s the current state of full size pick ups.

I won’t own another engine with cylinder deactivation, if other options are available. I used a “Range Technologies” to bypass the AFM, in my Silverado with the 5.3 L and never had problems, but I know several people who have had issues after letting the cylinder deactivation do it’s thing. Same with the Ram 5.7L and 6.4L; great engines, if you discard or bypass the cylinder deactivation.

My new Taco Wagon( Ram 2500 Power Wagon ) has the 6.4L Hemi. Runs great. Got 21K miles on it and averaging 17.4 mpg over that distance. It passes everything on the highway - except a gas station.

Honestly - with the 31 gallon gas tank the Taco Wagon will go further than my hinney. About 200 miles and both Brownie and I have to stop and stretch.

My 2500 is firm but not bad. If you drop the pressures down the TPMS light will come on but the ride improves greatly (if I am not hauling or towing of course)

Is the ram box (storage on outside of bed sides) available on all trim levels?

OK - first you must realize that the entire setup on the 2019 Power Wagon is not anything like the standard Ram pickup. It has long travel suspension and is set up for off-road travel. Because of this - on pavement it rides like butter. On gravel/washboard road the ride is fantastic. Idea being - keep the rubber on the road. This is what the suspension is set up to do and it does it well.

The entire underbody( wheel wells and all - except the drive shafts) is sprayed twice with Line-X bedliner product. Same for the bed.

However - because of this very compliant suspension the Taco Wagon is rated to carry only 1800 pounds. This may be a negative factor for some. I bought the PW for fun. I DO ABSOLUTELY NO WORK with it at all. It is purely a vehicle for pleasure.

I have no answer for the ram box question. The tires are Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac - load range E. I run the tires at 65 psi - Owners Manual recommendations. They run quiet on the asphalt.

The last item. The PW has a lot of features I consider unnecessary. Heated/cooled drivers seat - sun roof - six way drivers seat - full leather interior - and a whole lot of features on the digital dash. I could either take the unit they had on the floor OR wait, forever, for a special order Power Wagon.

The Owners Manual for the 2019 PW recommends 89 octane. I run 92 because a whole lot of the places I go will only have 87 octane. It kind of averages out that way.

That hemi is a sweet motor. If the diesel was maybe a $3000 upgrade it would be a no-brainer but as a $10,000 option you better really need it.

I have both the 6.4 Hemi and the 6.7 diesel.

The hemi is in a 2019 Ram 2500 Tradesman.
The diesel is in a 2016 Ram 3500 Tradesman Cab/Chassis

I like the Hemi and I use that truck to pull smaller loads. It has more pep to get up on the interstate than my 3500. But not as much overall power as the diesel.

Keep in mind that in my 3500 Cab/Chassis the engine is 'detuned' compared to a 3500 with a pickup bed. This means that it has less horsepower and torque.

I have owned several 2500's with the diesel. If I buy another 2500, I will probably go with the Hemi again.

Thanks For the info, was not aware of that. Definetly not buying a PW, it is a Ram 2500 Base Bighorn.
