Good Morning!!!! 68F @ 7:00AM. Sunny. High 101F. Winds SSW at 5 to 10 mph.
Another Excessive Heat Watch starts Friday morning, running through Monday. Highs will reach 111F, and lows will only drop into the upper 70s. Thank goodness for air conditioning and margaritas.

Sorry to hear about the poison ivy, Ron. I've had pretty good results from Triamcinolone Acetonide cream USP, 0.1%, a prescription I got from my MD. I also find that if I scrub it with water as hot as I can stand, it takes a lot of the itch away. I'm envious, Paul. I get poison oak by just looking at it.

You could pay me for a month, Billy, but I'm not sure I'll be worth a darn after this project is finished. Sounds like you're gettin' plenty of exercise, though!

Got a call from a pro arborist on the pole saw I've got for sale. Said he had the same saw but someone stole it. I chuckled a bit, and told him I had an older chainsaw for sale a couple years ago, and when I went to meet the buyer, he told me his saw was the same model and had been stolen, and he wanted to see if the one I had for sale was his! I reassured this buyer I got the saw from my local Stihl dealer, not his work truck. Anyway, the buyer said he'd pay for my fuel if I delivered it, so it looks like I'll be heading south to meet him, probably having dinner and an overnight near Sacramento with an old buddy. With all this hot weather, I could use a break from the trench, and a trip to the liquor super store down there to restock the beer cooler, too.

Happy Hump Day, folks!!!

I get poison ivy reactions just from seeing it. When I’m in East Texas I get it constantly. In Central Texas we don’t have it as much.

Scrubbing with hot water works to get the blisters open so they can dry out faster.

Best thing I have found for the itching is Bactine spray. A good spraying with Bactine will usually keep the itching away for 10 hours or more.

That gives me a nights rest or gets me through a meeting, church, work project, etc. Fairly inexpensive and readily available.

Corn hole platforms require specifics, don't mess with the Association.

The American Cornhole Association requires platforms be a 48" x 24" rectangle made from 1/2-inch plywood. The front of the platformstands 2-1/2 to 4 inches tall and the back of the platform sits 12 inches off the ground. The plans for this project follow those requirements.
That's how I originally made them. Now I know better. 😁

72°F and clear-ish skies this morning, going up to 91° today. Looks like we get a bit of a break tomorrow at only 84° for the high.

I've never had a reaction to poison ivy, Ron. Guess I'm one of those weird people. Hope you get yours cleared up.

I guess The Wife has decided she likes kayaking. She's too short (just under 5'2") to lift them up to the car top rack, and I was moaning and groaning a bit this weekend when lifting them after paddling for a few hours. So, she decided to look at trailers again. We ended up ordering one from Malone, who says it may be between 2-4 months before we get it. She also looked around last night for a better PFD that is made more to a woman's form. Found one she likes and ordered it, too.

I may have to start playing gigs again. 😲 🎸 💰
You probably know it, but there are kayak lift assist roof racks. Thule is probably the top priced, but well regarded, but many others.

Yeah, those would be very helpful. However, for what Thule and Yakima want for a couple pair of their lift assist devices, we could buy a trailer and a couple of new kayaks. With the trailer, we'll never have to lift them more than two feet.

We got a nice discount on the trailer, nearly 30%, so it wasn't as painful as it could have been.

88F and mostly cloudy @ 13:00, HI 97. High was only predicted to be 86F today, so we've certainly beat that.

Currently have a lightning alert, closest strike 16 miles away. Couple of cells southwest of Wooster and tracking northeast putting us in their path.

Grass needs mowed down here around the house, going to slip out and see if I can beat the rain and get it done.

93 with heat index of 104.

The forecast track line has the storm center about 8-10 miles from my house. Calling for an inch plus here. Not much wind.

Ron, those brown outs are very hard on freezers, air conditioners or anything with a compressor.

Poison ivy and oak have never really bothered me much, but what we called cow itch vine down South sure did. I assume it’s sumac.

I think I bought a Woods front deck zero turn, if it checks out as described we will pick it up tonight. It’s an 1850, 18 hp, 50” deck. New blades, belts and general service. I want it mainly for a back up, but we shall see.
I took Ellen’s SUV in for service this morning after our monthly friends breakfast. Ver convenient, my best friend was at the breakfast and he still does minor service to keep his hand in cars. He sold his family owned dealership in 2015 to CarMax.
Went to the bank for mower money just in case, came home and hooked up the trailer, also just in case.

I thought Harbor Freight had duplicated my order again, but they sent me two tarps in separate boxes that were 24x16x6, they could have gotten four in each box, glad it was free shipping.

Careful in the heat folks.

Got the mowing around the house maybe 75% done before the raindrops started to fall.

Temps have dropped to 85F and we are under a severe thunderstorm watch until 21:00. A Special Weather Statement has also been issued.

Time to switch to indoor activities.

Ron, when exposed to poison ivy (urushiol) the only way to get it off the skin is friction.
Luckily we do not have poison ivy here that I am aware of. I think there is a tree in Tasmania that causes similar problems. Heck, we don't even have stinging nettles here like we had in NZ.

Don, here are pictures I found from others of the parade.
Tried to get Sassy to ride in Tonka truck strapped to trailer.
You can tell from her look what she thought of that.

I have not had Poison Ivy ever before. Had Poison Oak when I was a kid. This will go away in a while. It happened Friday. While I did not see it. I was hauling the trimmings away with tractor. Later we ran the limbs through the chipper.
No problem here. Whole house generator kicked in as soon a voltage got to 108 volts. But most here do not have auto start generators.

When I got home, thought I'd try out that hand held chainsaw.
First thing, of course, was to add bar oil. Doesn't take much...as soon as you start to fill, it's filled.
Didn't have a lot of time before dinner, so I hit a few small (½ to ¾") saplings. It did fine. Probably need to tighten the chain just a bit
My biggest problem is my problem...since the stroke, my right hand doesn't have much dexterity, so pushing the safety button while depressing the trigger was a bit difficult.
I think I'd limit it to 2-3 inch branches...we'll see
Would I buy it again? Most likely, but I'll need more time on it to really make that determination.

Posted this before, but as a reminder...

He's right, Don! I have a black washcloth and towel that I use only for washing up after I've been exposed to poison oak. I strip off in the laundry room, and the contaminated clothes go right into the washer on the heavy dirt cycle. Then I jump into the shower and with warm, not hot water, use the black washcloth and a mild liquid soap to really go after my arms, legs, neck, and face. I don't usually wash three times, but it's not a bad idea at all. I really rinse the washcloth well, though. And I use warm water, because hot water causes your pours to open and let the oil get deeper into your skin. The I dry off with the black towel, and put on clean clothes. I'll keep an eye out for the telltale signs of a rash or that first little itch, and if I get it, that black washcloth keeps getting used until it's gone. Seems like the only way to get rid of it is to abrade the contaminated skin away, so there's a loofah in the shower, too, used just for that.

Thanks for posting the video!
