Pacific North West - Excessive heat warning issued

I remember baling hay when it was 100F with humidity at about 50%. I don't miss it. My dad would eat salt crystals like candy bars. Nobody will do it now, they all use collectors. I still stack about 250 bales in my barn, but I wait for a cooler day.

In my younger days I was on an asphalt paving crew. I recall working all day on hot asphalt on 95 degree days and roasting. Went through a lot of water, for sure. Never could do that these days.

Spent morning driving horse team to get ready for horse show later in month. Spent afternoon jet skiing on local lake, and now heading out to dinner. Love the cooler weather.

About two weeks ago the counties contractor did a chip & seal on the entire county road - Mullinix Rd.

I got stuck behind the paving job. So - turned off the Taco Wagon. It only took about five minuets and I had the TW running again with the AC. My God it was hot just sitting there.

I can imagine what it must have been for the paving crew.

They were VERY lucky. Three days after they completed the job this damn "heat dome" hit us.

However - I wonder if the paving would have been done in temps above 100F and up to 109F.

Is there an upper limit where, for crew safety, the job would be halted.

Oosik If a wildfire came and your Taco wagon and Kubota burned up, along with your house, it wouldn't be the end of the world. All that stuff can be replaced or lived without. I would worry more about you and Brownie getting out. Best insurance is to keep the brush down around your buildings and you are in pretty good shape in that respect.

In the event if a fire, a diesel generator with a big tank running a pump from the lake sprinkling the place and Kubota would be a good idea. Then you and Brownie get out of Dodge in the Taco.

This hot weather has made me think of fires. Normally - I never think of it. Forty years and only one that even got close.

Cougsfan - I opened up and now mow the old orchard site. So now I have a 150 foot buffer of green grass around the house. Every year I mow further and further out from the house. Pretty soon I'll have a one hole golf course. It'll be rough but all green.

It's been another good day. Outside temps peaked at 90F at around 6 PM and have now dropped to 82F. Last night it cooled down so much in the house - I had to put on a sweat shirt. I can get use to that.

There's enough smoke in the upper atmosphere to dim the sun today. Unfortunately, the infra red comes right through, so there's no relief from the heat. 138 is closed at Idlewyld Park because of a forest fire. We're still a month out from traditional fire season. It's really dry.

There is a forrest fire burning about 16 miles NE of Cheney. 300 acres - no growth - no containment.

This afternoon is quite a bit hotter than yesterday. 94F & 6%RH @ 4PM.

I'm still able to keep it cool in the house but all this outside heat - it's getting old.
