Do you know any details of the underlying issue or solution? I'm curious whether there was actually some sort intrusion into the site, or whether he's implementing updates to the sign-up and/or new user posting process to discourage spammers.

Nope...no details.....just tons of spam that I saw.......not sure what the fix is.
