It has to bleed air out of the system. First couple times it might not do anything.

So... Just keep putting it in drive and hope it bleeds the air out? There's a link in Lotsofgreengrass's post to a "How to bleed air out" but the link doesn't work... Should I be doing something to help this along?

Pretty sure I just ran it awhile, don’t think very long. Been awhile, I forget exactly.
How's about this: 1. Check oil level. 2. Place vehicle's drive axle on jack stands with wheels off floor. 3. Start engine and operate at low idle speed. 4. Repeat opening and closing bypass (tow) valve while alternately depressing forward and reverse pedal(s). 5. When vehicle starts to move, increase engine speed. 6. Repeat quick starts and panic stops until transaxle give full response. 7. Remove jack stands while placing vehicle's wheels on floor.
8. Recheck and top-off oil level.

Make sure the transmission is engaged with the wire to allow you to disengage to push it. I just watched I video of my first run, took about 5 sec and I drove it away.

i'm a little confused: Jack up drive axle with wheels off floor but then "once it starts to move"... How's that gonna happen?

Thanks again, buckeye. The transmission is engaged. I have a feeling you rebuilt yours properly and that's why it ran after 5 seconds. I put mine in "forward" drive for a good 8-10 seconds and nothing. The wheels did buck once, but, that was it. I went forward and back - up on jackstands - 4 or 5 times.
Would you think - if things were ultimately okay - that I'd be able to spin wheel hubs with no resistance?

I had a somewhat similar issue and posted. That thread may or may not offer some help. In my final post to that thread I explained that it did get better but by then I had determined to sell it. Got a J Deere replacement and immediately noticed the difference between my quite old unit and a brand new one. BTW - the Husqvarna has - I guess - an electronic push/pull control to activate the mower (the JD unit has a lever)- and when I put in a new battery mine did better on hills - but I have no idea if that is at all relevant.
