Should I cab or not. Getting ready to buy

One thing I have noticed about cabbed versus non-cabbed tractors: If you are on the tractor for long hours out in the wind and weather, the cab makes it much less fatiguing. 8 hours on a non-cabbed tractor will leave you dehydrated and physically wear you out, but is much more manageable with a cab.

For those worrying about working on the woods with a cabbed tractor, you can always dump a couple grand on the tractor and make it almost bullet proof. :)

The bottom of the tractor is also shielded.

I really like that. My M126X is my bush hog tractor and she has a few battle scars.
Home made or pre fab kit?
Very nice. Looks like it makes routine maintenance a bit more challenging though.

We have a couple of companies dedicated on fabricating all kinds of protections and shielding for tractors and a the bigger dealers will do it in house as well. Main use of these tractors ends up being either logging or land clearing, mainly brush mowing as we don't really use skidsteers for that. They also are setup with forestry tires.

I'm sure they have pre fab kits, however most are custom fitted to the tractor and to the costumer likings. All the panels are easily removed for maintenance and there are small doors built in so it's still easy to pull the dipstick. Yes, it's makes it having a couple more steps for maintenance but it keeps the tractor protected and we all know that things get expensive in an hurry if a branch breaks a glass or rips the roof of the tractor.

If you don't get the cab factory installed you can
kick youself in the ass later! The aftermarket cabs
they are cheaper but leave a lot to desire!

One thing I noticed about working outside in the summer time late afternoons, on my canopy-equipped open-station tractor:

The fresh air outside sure feels good after being cooped up in an air conditioned factory or house for most of the day.

One thing I'm noticing on cabbed vs non-cabbed tractors is that it causes quite the debate on a tractor forum!
