Not really, they are using a vegetable oil compound.
Does mi use salt brine, to keep dust down on gravel roads?

Depends on the county and the availability of a certain dust control chemical. Here in this county they use brine or CACL, it's the township's choice. In our Township, the Road Comish applies CACL versus brine but in the next county over (Lenawee), all they use is brine because they own their own brine well (also own their own gravel pit for road mix). We don't.

I much prefer liquid CACL over brine because one application of CACL will last the entire summer even with rain events, whereas brine washes off after every rain event so in my view CACL, while it might be a but more costly per volume applied, is more economical because it only has to be applied one time.

As a matter of note, I apply CACL crystals to my farm lane. It's gravel and keeps the dust under control. I buy it in 50 pound bags from the co-op and no, I don't fill my tires on my tractors so not used there...

Where I work, we have oil heaters in the winter. We change a lot of oil in heavy equipment. This includes a lot of hyd oil. Any extra oil that we have is sold to a company that recycles it. And the base that this state sprays down is oil, not vegetable. I have used oil on some of the wood beds on trailers.

Took two five gallon buckets of UMO to the local Autozone. They were glad to take it off my hands. Even emptied the buckets for me so I could keep them.

Around here there are lots of people that pay 50 cents a gallon for used oil so they can run their waste oil heater in winter.

When I run out about January I switch to my in floor PEX heat but until then, I use my Clean Burn.

There is a little known law in my state that says if a business sells motor or hydraulic oil, they must also accept used oil for recycling. The law is never enforced.

My tractors generate around 15 gallons of motor & hydraulic oil per year. When I bring the used stuff to the place where I bought the new oil and ask them to take it, they look at me like I had two heads. No one will accept it. Sure, I use some for lubing machinery but there is always a whole lot left over.

Years ago, when I bought my first tractor, the dealer heated his building with waste oil. He had a tank beside the building where customers could leave their used oil. He eventually had to take it out because people were dumping all sorts of crap in it. Used anti freeze was the biggest problem since it caused damage to his burner.

When I worked for the local telephone company, I made friends with the truck mechanic. He let me dump my oil in his recycle tank which was collected monthly by a recycling company.

Now that I'm retired and have several tractors, the problem is worse than ever. I'm storing my used oil in an old 275 gallon fuel oil tank but it's almost full.

Considering the cost of new oil these days, there must be a market for the used stuff. I don't generate enough to warrant spending big bucks on a waste oil heater. I'm curious what others here do with their used tractor oil??
I'm fortunate to live close to the county land fill ! But far enough away & they recycle everything (y)! I keep 4 ,5 gallon containers to poor my waste oil in & a used oil case box to put used oil filters in & 2,5 gallon containers for antifreeze & at the landfill they have 2 large holding tanks 1 for oil & 1 for antifreeze & 2 ,50 gallon drums for filters.& a small dumpster for used oil containers & antifreeze containers & they even have a place for tires off the rim ,So when I buy new tires from a dealer I take them with me so I don't have to pay disposal fee from the dealer;)! & the county intern sells it to wholesalers, So they might make a little money off the waste:unsure:. I'm glad to have this facility to use.

Yup.....the used oil police would be afta ya there!
I'm in crapafornia and I burn all the used oil I can get in my foundry furnace.. problem is, I cant get enough of it, so I have to use propane instead.
Way back in the 80s you used to have to pay to haul it away, for awhile it was a commodity and recyclers would pay for it.. now thanks to ******* "eco" freaks once again you have to pay to haul it away.. (we've successfully got a recall on the governor coming up) I'd get used frying oil from Burger King and run it in my VW diesel rabbit p/u. funny to watch others at traffic lights wondering where the onion ring smell was coming from. :)
