So I was helping a friend on his farm yesterday and he gets a call from a doctor friend. He then turns around and out of the blue and asks me how much weight can a half ton haul? I of course said it depends and I showed him the payload sticker in the door jamb of his truck. The doctor friend then sends him a pic of his payload sticker, it’s 1200 lbs, he is wanting to haul 2200 lbs. Am I the only one that knows about these payload stickers, even cars have them? His doctor friend later on borrowed his trailer and promptly got a flat tire.

The short answer is no, you aren't the only one. It's amazing how many people aren't aware however; and also who don't understand how much things weigh. Just because the pickup bed isn't full doesn't mean that you can add more gravel.

I take advantage of that by pretending its perfectly fine when i haul a tractor with a backhoe holding a big stump behind my Volvo. My trailer is in perfect nick, the 2.5 TDI takes off smoothly at the traffic lights so when i see the police looking at me in the line beside me, i just smile and greet with a nod. When they see im perfectly confident, they shrug and turn left without stopping me.

My record load was 5960kg gross combined, when the loader operator gave me a full bucket of topsoil with a grin when i asked for a half. It was only 3 miles home and i sure wont hit the freeway with that load, but 65-70kmh to avoid suspicion was no problem...
