To be fair, the further you get from historic events, the less important they seem to be. I think most current politicians (and voters) don't have a clue as to what history says. And therefore we have become doomed to repeat it. And then repeat it again. And again.
I am a student of Christian Biblical principles. It is generally accepted (by examining history, over thousands of years) that it takes just three generations to fall from a peak of spirituality to utter depravity. It would be hard to imagine the politics could be any better.
I've always said that about immigrants.
1st generation, work themselves to death for their children.
2nd generation, well educated and caught between immigration culture and american culture.
3rd generation, Americans, talk to hand, where are my benefits?
As far as history goes, unless you go way way way out of your way and put in a huge effort, most of us have no clue about our real history.
1 example. We tend to worship Thomas Jefferson. Everyone knows he was a slave owner and fathered many children with his slave women but what's never mentioned is he was a true believer in slavery. He owned hundreds and was a big supporter of expanding slavery into the western states which leads to John Brown and another load of horse chit from govt history books.
It's funny, I believe most of us know government schools are basically day care centers and propaganda factories but.....we still want to believe Jefferson was a good guy. I know I do....but I know better! I even been to Montichello twice and Poplar Ridge once.
Most slave owners freed many of their slaves when they died. I think Jefferson freed only 5 or 6, all blood relatives.
Now a days people call that......compartmentalism
