Super Duty Lead Times

On Saturday I put an order in for a F250 CC 4x4 XL, I customized it for my specific needs. The dealers in NJ where quoting lead times of 12 plus weeks. The Virginia dealer was quoting 4 weeks, and they beat the price by $1,800.

Does anyone know actual lead times of these trucks in the current situation of Covid and the semi conductor shortage?

From my experience ordering trucks, it will depend on your custom build and they won't have an accurate ETA until they place the order. Even then it can get bumped by parts shortages. But I wouldn't trust an ETA from any of them based on "we just placed an order for one and it is x weeks". If you included a single option that is in short supply, it could affect the ETA. Since yours is an XL, I'd bet it will be a shorter time frame though (compared to the option heavy models).
What engine are you considering?

I got the 6.2 and the 6 speed. I'm only using the truck to tow an RV, Boat, Dump Trailer, and other hauling duties. I estimate 5,000 miles per year tops.

My F150 has the 5.0 but I would love that 6.2. Now that they have the 7.3 it makes the 6.2 seem more reasonable.
So you already ordered it, and they give a guestimate for eta. Then once it gets scheduled you'll receive an actual build date. Is that still the process? The delays can sometimes come after that when they sit waiting for transit for many weeks.

I'm surprised they couldn't make you deal on something more equipped on the lot or at a nearby dealer just to move current inventory but maybe they sell fewer Super Duties up there. Most trucks on the lots here are Platinum's and some Lariats with a few King Ranch models scattered around. I suppose they feel those are more likely to appeal to a broader market plus more mark up for them.

I could have been talked into going up, but I would budge on the 40/20/40 seat (every once in a while we have 6 people), pre collision, rear locker, FX4, no window in rear glass, camper package, 5th wheel prep, upfitters, Factory spray in bedliner. The factory spray in bedliner, with the 5th wheel prep, box link and bed LEDs is really a neat setup.

I got into that for $46k, before rebates, plus tax.

I reached out to 20 dealers within 50 miles of my house. I messaged them quickly on autotrader, and told them what I was looking for.

Not one had a truck built that that.

I am surprised how few even had the OEM 5th wheel puck packages.

Many dealers had between 1 and 3 super duties on the entire lot!

they are saying I should have it in 4 weeks. I have my doubts. They didn't even mention scheduling.

Yeah that's a pretty unique option list you want. I always had the 40/20/40 seat as well but XLT was as nice as I had in the first 3 SD's. June 2019 we traded and found a near perfectly equipped Lariat with the Ultimate package and it has the Captains chairs, but I have really come to enjoy it!

Lariat is the highest trim that a 40/20/40 can even be ordered in and I never seen one. FYI, Ours came with the spray in bedliner and it is no where near as good and durable as the Line-X I had in my 2006 so I wouldn't let the factor in.

I love my husky liners, and was planning to use a husky liner mat with the spray in bedliner. What did you not like about the spray in bedliner?

If you're going to put a mat over then you'll be ok. The Ford spray in one is not as thick and durable as the Line-X one I had done on my 2006. The ford one is also slicker than the Line-X, stuff slides around on it much easier, the Line-X was a little "tackier" texture if you will and didn't allow so much sliding around.

I haven't actually place my order yet but was told 10 to 12 weeks for a special order Super Duty. I'm very particular about what I want or don't want on my vehicles so I've almost never purchased off the lot. Exception to that was a purchase during the "cash for clunkers" program. If I waited for a special order then, I would've lost out on the $4500 for a $45 car.

Fortunately I have vehicles to drive so a wait isn't a big deal for me.

I think dealers must be struggling to get inventory ..Friend of mine it the GM at the local Ford dealer..He called and offered me 62K for my 17 Platinum F350 PSD with 20K miles on it....I was thinking about taking it ..then I saw a new one was 85K....

I have a 2020 F250 Lariat Fleet and so far I'm loving it. I do a fair amount of driving for work and also towing horse trailers. Mines going to the dealer on Tuesday for maintenance and for a recall for the rear view camera. It also has a couple warranty items for them to look at, I've had an annoying buzz/vibration behind the dash when idling (I hope they can find it) and the drivers door isn't unlocking with the remote when it's cold. Other than that, with 20K miles, I've been happy with it, I have the 6.7 diesel and I'm somewhat surprised my fuel mileage isn't a little better. Especially for a 10 speed, SRW and aluminum bodied truck. My 2016 Chevy 3500 DRW flatbed got the same mileage and it felt substantially heavier and was a dually.

A couple options that someone should consider if they do a fair amount of driving is heated mirrors and the adaptive cruise control. Those may be the only two options I miss on mine.

Most interesting. The Taco Wagon( Ram 2500 Power Wagon) was not on the dealers lot but supposedly had been built and was awaiting delivery from Saltillo, MX. It has more goodies/do dads than I would have ordered but I got a fair price.

The bed liner and complete spray on undercoat is by Line-X. The sales manager said they had problems with whatever company did this previously. That's why they went to Line-X. The ENTIRE underside of the Power Wagon has a double coating of the black stuff. Except for the two drive lines. Smooth as a babies bottom - nothing like the bed liner. Slide on the bed liner - it will rip the skin right off your knees.

The Power Wagon arrived in Spokane, WA and was held in the railroad "receiving area" for almost three weeks. The dealer and I knew it had arrived on the second day it got here. It passed "delivery inspection" on the fourth day.

By the third week I was seriously considering "adverse possession". The truck was 100% paid for in cash when I signed the paperwork on the very first day.

Frustration had an all new meaning for me ...............

When I ordered my F150 back in 2016, Ford had a tracking system I could log on to and watch the progress. The truck was built and ready to ship 3 weeks after the dealer placed my order. It showed "In Transit" for 6 weeks until it finally showed up at the dealership!

The local dealerships just can't get new vehicles and it is all being blamed on coronavirus restrictions. The local Ford dealer normally has ~ 50 new trucks in stock...only about 7 on the lot now, including Superduties, F150s and Rangers. The local Jeep dealer hasn't been able to get a new Wrangler in 2 months....two used ones, an '18 and a '19 on the lot is all there is.

I would agree the Ford factory spray in liner is not as thick. For me I like it as well as after market, I have had Line-X in previous trucks. The Ford stuff is not as thick and is a little slicker. If you are putting stuff in and want to slide it that is. an advantage, if you do not want it to slide it is a disadvantage. Kind of a toss up in my book but I bet the factory stuff is cheaper.

With the aluminum bed on my 2020 F250, I chose the Line-X for it's added thickness. I also added the Ford tailgate assist. If your truck doesn't have it, I highly recommend it. The Ford design is better than the aftermarket options and worth the extra money.

I had agreed to buy an "incoming" new GMC Sierra Denali last May. It had been built and was at a rail yard awaiting transport. Expected ETA within a couple weeks. Well, it never showed up at the dealer until early August. In the meantime, a near identical truck with a different color combo was built in late June and arrived at the dealer in mid July. I ended up buying that one instead. I just happened to notice it on the regional inventory search when I was looking to see if the other truck had shipped yet.

We have no idea why the two trucks were so out of phase with each other in terms of schedule, but there were two guesses: 1) the first truck was parked at the back of some line at the rail yard and boxed in, or 2) it had been ordered with trailer tire pressure monitors, which were a "port" accessory, and it's possible there was a backlog at the port or a backlog on that accessory. At the time, the dealer had seen similar delays that they blamed on Covid screwing up the transport and port/accessory system.
