2019 Ram Classic Key Fobs lost

So, when I bought my 2019 Ram Classic in October of 2019, used, it came with a single key fob. I had meant to get a 2nd, but never got around to it. Well, I have lost my only key fob... So I see Key Fobs for sale online for $29-60 each, and would need programmed by mobile locksmith or dealer. (Actually one website says you can do it your self with a complex procedure). The truck is unlocked, so thats a plus. Online people talk about $400-700 to get dealer to provide Fobs and program. Anyways, anyone ever deal with this? Is it better to get a fob or 2 on Amazon and try, or just call mobile lock guy? Are most lock guys even able to do this stuff? Obviously want to avoid a stealership if at all possible, I hate dealing with those guys.

A friend of mine lost his key fob on a Chrysler van while out of town.

Called a locksmith who said he does key fobs.

All my friend needed was the VIN # and ID.

Took an hour and $300.

Luckily, my wife has her car, and I have a work car (take home, but no personal use, GPS tracked), so I hopefully can call around and get some prices. I knew better, but...

Factory key fobs online are $117 plus programming. Ebay fobs can be $25 pair plus programming. Hard call to make since you can't use truck. I'd call dealer to see if key can be ordered pre-programmed for your truck. That might be best way. Once you get a working key, you might want to look into AlphaOBD software. It allows you to program your own keys along with many other funtions!

I went ahead and ordered 1 "OEM" "unlocked" Fob on ebay, for $29; I guess it might be $30 down the drain, but I can try that before resorting to a professional. Me, wife, and kids have searched high and low for two days, but how much you want to bet the old key turns up someplace stupid once I dont need it anymore?

When I bought my RAM in March, I was given 2 key fobs. It took me a while to come around to, but now I like the cold remote start from fob or my phone. I guess the only think I miss is having the old “ hidden key “ wired under the truck trick in case I lose fob. I don’t know if fob must be in proximity to truck to start it if you only have phone.
If you have neither phone or fob (like if you drop both in the water) then what?

Nothin to do with keys but......

On both my Chrysler products you can read engine codes on the odometer. It's on u tube but basically cycle the ignition 3 times and leave key in on position.

You don't actually start the car, just on off on off on off on....its takes a few seconds and will then display the code then say done.

Then you disconnect then batt and reboot the pewter and get the car thru inspection ASAP!

I bought a used GMC truck at auction and it only came with one beat up looking fob and one key. I bought two new keys and two new fobs and programmed them in the truck. Took about 30 seconds each.

On most of the RAM and Jeep fobs there is actually a hidden door key,
if you move the little slid tab and pull the end out you have a key to unlock the door.
Which is fine I suppose if you are home and lock one fob in the truck and the battery in the spare fob is dead
you could use that key to recover the other.

The video on programming the fob shows you have to have a key to do the programming.

you could use that key to recover the other.

I thought about wiring one of those under the truck, only problem is, with punch button start, you cant start truck. Must have proximity key fob.
The cheapo key would get you in the truck, but not get you home.

I havent tried this yet, but if you leave the fob in the truck, can you lock the doors with thumb pad on handle and walk away, so you cant lose fob in the first place (because it’s locked in truck)

My doors have gotten locked with the fob in the ignition, at least the windows were open.

If it will start, the fob is out of sight in the truck.

Step on the brake, push the start button, if the dashboard message "Key Fob Not Detected" comes on the Fob is not in range.

I have purchased maybe 30 new GM vehicles and always got two keys/fobs?Ram gives you One?
