In reality Weather forecasters are the only people that have ever been able to predict the future with any accuracy...and for the most part they do a very good job...

My uncle calls them Weather Guessers.

One of my employees says "Wish I could have a job where I was paid to lie".

It must really suck to live where you have such lousy weather forecasters...
...except for radar most of the data comes from gov. owned (NOAA/NWS) satellites...what local forecasters do with that data makes all the difference....starting with the NWS (National Weather Service) their regional forecasts (available at National Weather Service ) are extremely accurate...they are updated 24/7...

If you and your employee are getting incorrect weather forecasts it's your own fault there are many sources for regional WX forecasts that are 99% accurate 99% of the time..

Like I said...these folks are amazing when it comes to being able to predict the future...

I remember I once heard a professional weather person (is that correct now? entity maybe) say that they often don't have a clue a number of days out but give some forecast as the public expects it.

I am told our area is tricky to forecast but one thing they seem to be very accurate with is the wind. Next the temperature. Not so much the sun and precipitation.

I would say it's closer to 99% correct 1% of the time.

Even looking just 3-4 days out, the forecast for each day changes at least daily, and sometimes hourly. For instance, at 8 AM today Weather Underground was showing next Tuesday with a high of 29, low of 13, 22% chance of precipitation with 0" expected. Mainly cloudy during the day and partly cloudy overnight.

Just now (11 AM) it's showing high of 28, low of 12. Cloudy during the day and a few clouds from time to time overnight. I realize it's not a big change, but that's only in three hours! It will no doubt change every day until Tuesday.

A few weeks ago multiple sources, including the NWS through a Winter Storm Warning Bulletin, said we should expect 8-13" of snow. Instead we got 30-40". Edited to add: and that forecast was the day before.

That's part of your problem right there...consider the source...the NWS updates their forecasts at least every hour or less...
only an idiot would predict a percentage chance of precipitation and also say "0 expected" they (WU) are contradicting themselves...(idiotic at best)...doh...!

If you read the NWS bulletins they ALWAYS say to listen to the latest alerts via their radio networks for the latest up to date expectations...using only Internet forecast interfaces is another common mistake made by users...learning how to read and understand forecasts is paramount to understanding a dynamic like regional weather...

To be fair the NWS almost always errs on the side of caution...

I just notice that the long range forecast always seems to deteriorate as the date draws near. Like sunny and 10c on the weekend. Then 8, and 7 and 6 and fnally 5 and overcast. Like they purposely try and give nice long range forecasts.
