If it were not for the bleeding heart politics of the subject all non native cat species would be treated the same as the pythons in S FL are being treated, there should be bounties and reward for killing them...they (domestic cats) are nothing but invasive, destructive predators and should be eradicated from N. America...they are responsible for killing literally billions of native American song birds and other wildlife species annually...people that allow cats to roam freely outdoors should be heavily fined and jailed..

What is really sick and exceedingly stupid is those that advocate the practice of trapping feral cats and after spaying or neutering them...re-releasing them back into the wild where they continue to kill native wildlife...they should be euthanized...

It should be required that all domestic cats allowed outside must wear bells on collars...

A lot of it has to do with bleeding heart politics...A lot of people don't care about the decimated native species the Burmese pythons have done to the Everglades either but there is no political sympathy for invasive snakes...so there is government funding for programs to try and eradicate the problem...

Around here I don't know if the cats get more pounds of birds yearly or if the birds get more pounds of cats yearly.
The owls, hawks and eagles have been seen carrying off cats and many disappear each year.

I am sold on the peanut butter bucket trap for open spaces, shop floor etc. Not sure what I would use in a confined space. So yes, lets get on with finding a better mouse trap.

I use .22 rat shot on occasion. Just have to be careful what's in the background within about 20 feet. It's good for discouraging bigger varmints from coming up on the porch to eat the dog's food.

Well my $89 electronic trap killed about 24 mice and 1 rat and then pretended to work when it was not. I wondered when the bait kept disappearing and no corpses in the trap. So I jumped a wire between the contacts and nothing happened. Zip, nada, nought.
So I took it back to Bunnings today and they gave me a new one. Now loaded with their favourite el cheapo peanut butter so we will see what happens tonight.
I caught four meeces in the cage trap beside it the last 2 nights and I know there is a rat there as meeces can't poo that big. Bit like taking a woman out, you know, tonight is the night.... look out ratfink...

Ahh? thread after my own heart, this was driven by the covid virus. I was seeing more and more rats and mice than usual, more than likely the new neighbors have horses and with the feed?ere they came.

I have the top lined with galvanized and a pedestal in the middle also lined with galvanize, these are wired to a pigtail with the exposed osb to break continuity.

I wired up a control box seen to the right, I plug a 50 extension cord into that and plug the trap into extension cord into that. The serrated spike on the pedestal is where I slide a piece of bacon onto.

Maiden voyage it took no more than 5 min. to see the first rat, he sniffed all around it but would not climb up, after a minute, he couldn稚 take it no more, when he raised up on his hind legs and touched the pedestal he jumped straight in the air, did not kill.

I sat there in my chair having an adult beverage and saw this happen several more times.
I did get 2 nice ones and while I was dressing them up for supper I noticed they have furry pads on the bottom of their feet?at my beverage down went and got spray bottle and watered all metal down.

It痴 been 95% kill rate and the rice is almost done?ee ya.

I hadn't seen a mouse around my place in years then the other day out of nowhere one appeared. Shrewd devil has eluded all efforts to trap him. Were I not old and slow,I could capture him with my hand since his bum foot really slow's him down.:mouse:

I leave 'em lotsa food......when they eat it, I think they get kinda sick, and then they go away!

Apparently a rat can restart it's heart so my trap is designed to keep shocking for 30 seconds to prevent that from happening. Got 2 more little suckers last night and the bait is still intact.
