the engine is so big and the streamlined cowl really hugs it tight so the dipstick can be a challenge until you get used to it..

I got my commercial in a 14-19-3A.
Ferried many Vikings from Plainview. So it was obvious to me.....

Almost got one years ago but deferred to an airline pilot as I had other projects on the go at that time.

usually owning a rare classic has cost overhead due to parts or services being hard to find but this particular variant has an engine that is still in production, a panel full of modern avionics and engine management gauges, and anyone with Viking knowledge can easily care for the airframe. Really, the only must-do is to keep it out of the weather - which makes any plane last much longer.
this one will be for sale in a couple of months, one I get the annual completed. I got it so I could fly between my two homes and save a lot of time but I'm retiring and moving to just one of them.. don't really need to get anywhere fast anymore
I am going to miss the attention it gets though..

it used to be like that. in the 70s I had a 1946 Luscombe with a bayside radio... awful

now with noise cancelling headsets and modern intercoms.. it's actually better than talking on the phone. shows other contacts in the area on you iphone or ipad.. even has voice alerts in a pleasant female voice.. it spoils you fast
