I thought briefly about getting the two wheeled version years ago, thinking that I could fill it while using my BH. Then I realized that somebody would have to wheel it away afterwards... and that somebody would be me.

I got a 2 wheeler with my primary and about only use being to haul cement. The 2 wheeler is much easier to load and use without flipping. If you’re trying to put mulch in a landscaping or something like that it’s not as maneuverable.

Good question - Couple reasons. 1) It is easier. Especially at the landing. Just drop the hitch and pull forward a little with some cable slack and unhook the chokers. Then winch the cable back in and you are ready to go again and the chokers are still in the sliders. 2) If you have a winch with a lower pulley and you put the cable in the lower pulley when you are ready to skid out it keeps the pulling point weight of the logs low just the same as if they were in the slotted bar. 3) In the woods if you have to drop the hitch, drive over a rough or very steep spot, and then winch the hitch back in you don't have to mess with taking the chokers out of the slots and put them on the sliders to winch and then put them back in the slots again. Even with my small winch with no lower pulley I leave the hitch on the cable if the going is good and the hitch not to big, Those are the main reasons anyway.

Thanks, learning here.

The cat's meow would be a movable axle location, so you could on-the-fly adjust the axle/tires to the sweet spot to balance the load...to reduce weight lifted by the handles...the magic 51% load point...

Sometimes a wheelbarrow load can be front-ended for balance, but not always...

Course, haven't used mine much since the FEL showed up one day on the property!!!

 Smart man to ask questions ! You will find learning never stops working in the woods.

I do not have a winch, nor do I see myself purchasing one anytime soon, maybe I'll put it on my Santa Wishlist! But I do appreciate the advice, and help from some of the more expierenced members in here. I do not tow a lot of logs with my Tractor, I find it too slow, I prefer to use the ATV with a log arch. I can't tow as large, or multiples, but I can go 10X faster. I have a lot of bedrock of my property, so some trails cant be made wider or less steep without the use of a large excavator with hammer, not worth it at this point for firewood. But your posts about towing and leverage and tipping points can be translated to towing anything really. I don't log with the Ford 2N anymore too hard to control around tight trees and rock outcroppings even in first gear. If the tree is too large I usually bring the splitter to the log, then haul out the splits, also keeps more mess in the woods. Thanks GG for posting, good thing to keep in mind.
