I've wondered for a while if he has hydraulic problems of some type. He also has an electric winch on back because the 3pth won't pick up a normal sized hitch of wood.

Still, that oak log has to weigh at least 1400 lbs...

My L3800 which is pretty much the same machine as his probably wouldn’t have lifted that log either even with my SSQA forks. But my 3 point hitch will pull the front of the tractor off the ground with the loader on. So if his won’t lift any reasonable load the machine would handle I’d start checking hydraulic pressure.

That log was already ant food so I cut it for firewood. I had it purposely forward on the forks so I could cut it without the frame getting in the way.View attachment 676623

Thats one reason I prefer cutting up wood in fall, ants are clump up in cold weather and easier to separate.

I "Know a guy" who's really, really cheap and will sweep those ants up to feed to his chickens. :D

I’m not that worried about the ants. They vacate after the tree is cut but the log is still ruined.

If I can lift a bucket full of dirt then I figure the hydraulics are close to specs, anymore pressure I'd be afraid of snapping the front axle into, probably that 20' red oak would do if it was placed on my FEL forks. But like you said gear tractors has so much more power and traction it's much better to push heavy logs..........:cool2:

I'm worried about ants when they get my house from holy firewood.........

Gravel was the only thing which caused me to pucker on my old 275... I wish that I could say that about my current tractor.

Chocolate covered ants are supposed to be a delicacy, but so far I haven't succumbed to the temptation. ;)

I added extensions so at the very most I can saw is 20'-7" but we go 20'-4" just get a bit of wiggle room, and then it usually requires two to roll log.

And there is part of my problem, I never have a second here to help roll!

They don’t stick around long. As long as you’re not going straight from the splitter to the stove which you shouldn’t be anyway it’s fine.
