Kubota L3240
Hey folks,
I'm planning a project to add rear remotes on my L3240 for a TnT. I'd like to avoid the high cost of an OEM install ($1500 for the parts), but also avoid some of the complexity and time involved with a totally custom install.

Since I'm inexperienced with hydraulics (but generally handy) I'd like to run my plan past folks here, and see if it makes sense. If folks have further suggestions or advice, that would be great.

As best as I can tell, there's a hard line that must be Power Beyond, connecting the Loader valve to the 3PH valve under the seat. (Shown in yellow in the diagram)

When a backhoe is added, this line is replaced by two hard lines, and the resulting ends serve as the inlet and outlet for the backhoe hydraulic feed. (Marked 010 and 040 in the diagram)

At $50 each, these seem like a decent way to provide straight-forward PB-in and PB-out for a 3rd party remote valve. Does that look right? I could try coming up with my own solution there, but the existing line has banjo fittings, so I guess that would involve cutting the lines and using compression fittings (or buying a flare tool). I think I'd pay $100 to avoid that.

I haven't come up with a tank return route, but that seems a bit easier, given the ability to tee into lines. I think I can just add a tee-fitting to the tank outlet on the loader valve.

For a valve, I think I'll put a 2 or 3-spool to the right of the seat, where factory remote levers would be located.

Anyone know where I can get a plate for mounting disconnects to the ROPS? Seems like someone must make these, no?

Thanks for any input and suggestions.

Nate

If you can find a valve that you like that has no PB and a tank port that can handle full system pressure, you can avoid the tank line and just run the valve's PB (or really the tank port) into the other end of the BH adaptor. Read the valve specs to see if the tank port can handle your tractor's full system pressure when you lift the 3pt.

You can get U bolts that fit your ROPs so you can clamp a flat plate to it. That's easy to make with a hacksaw and file. You can even mark the holes and have a machine shop drill them if they are larger than you have equipment for.

Most likely the banjo fitting will be a common thread that will allow you to use a standard fitting in its place. On the Kubota's I've worked on the banjo fitting can be replaced with a SAE fitting with an o ring which allows you to convert to a JIC type hose easily.

Like this, or a 45° or 90° if needed6400-2T.jpeg

I've toyed with the idea of adding a couple remotes on my 4240. My plan is to buy the hard lines for the factory spool valves and just plumb them to much cheaper spool valves I can buy elsewhere. It's not the cheapest way to go and it would require some modifications to the lines. Kubota uses a block to mount to both the factory spool valves and the top of the transmission. There's also three lines so I'm guessing that the spool valves are in the middle of the circuit. Without seeing the supply pipe I can't say for certain but it could be possible to thread the spool side for SAE fittings.

That would be great, if the banjo fitting could be replaced with an ORB. That would Save $100.

That’s an interesting idea. I wasn’t aware of that option. How do I figure out if a valve can run that way? Here’s what I was considering using. Monoblock Hydraulic Directional Control Valve, 3 Spool, 11 GPM

This valve can not handle system pressure on the Tank port. It uses Power Beyond to feed the next valve. I don't know of any Mono-block valves that can handle system pressure on the tank port.

Some of the electric over hydraulic valves used for third function or as a auxiliary valve can handle system pressure. For remotes, using PB is the simplest way of plumbing your new valve.
