We just bought a 3901 and have about 15 acres we want to "weed and feed". We have a number of trees so a boom sprayer would probably get knocked off on the first tree! I am looking at a Land Pride spin/rotary broadcast spreader. Would this be a good choice? It is $900. I saw a boomless nozzle sprayer that had I think Tractor Mike pedals that has about the same width coverage of 44 feet but the price tag is $2700. A sprayer has the advantage that once it touches what you are spraying it is immediately effective. But that price tag? Thoughts? Anyone using anything similar on small acreage?

PTO broadcast spreaders can work very well. But there is a learning curve involved.
Things that effect your spray pattern/coverage in no particular order
-height of 3PH
-engine RPM changes in RPM’s effect PTO RPM
-ground speed gear/range selection and engine RPM affect this as does the pressure on a HST pedal
-drop opening
-spreader vane angle adjustment

I am sure others will have more to add to this list. Many of these items will also have an effect on a sprayer application.

Are you getting the 500 pound or 700 pound poly tub? Pull-behind or PTO?
I have used the 500 pound capacity pull behind, does well behind my wife’s Kubota RTV500.

Spin spreader is a good choice in your situation.

A word to the wise, be sure to thoroughly clean the spreader, top side and bottom after using. Though the hopper may be poly, the rest of it is metal, and will corrode if not cleaned.

Those are two different implements for different uses, a boomless sprayeronthe back of an atv would be better for spray applications of weed and feed .For things like lime and fertilizer the broadcast spreader will be the only way to go. I have both and use them all the time. You can get either one for alot less at other sources , Rk Tsc, Or most farm and home,. Or try craigslist.

Have you checked around to see if you can rent one for a day? 3pt or tow behind. Its not an implement that you will use very often.

See I think we will need it quite a bit to get this feral property in shape the first couple of years then maybe 2-3 times a year after. But I will check into rental but the issue with granular is you have to plan to put it down before a rain and I worry with rental others may have the same thought.

I like the land Pride 500 pull behind best, wife can run spreader and I come behind her with cultipacker, sometimes you don’t have a lot of time to get ahead of rain.

The big benefit to pull behind is that ground speed and height are removed from the equation of consistent spread. Height remains basically constant and the speed of the broadcast spin is controlled by ground engagement of the wheels. From my experience and from watching others, these ate the 2 biggest inconsistencies with 3PH broadcast spreaders.

Reading thru the comments, someone said the downside was it was not quick hitch compatible which is probably a no-go for me.

I don't see anywhere that the other one is...:confused3:

My pto spreader works great but i wish i had went with a pull type. You can pull them with anything keeping your tractor freed up for other things. I f you have lots of time then no big deal. When i am putting in fall food plots im usually in a hurry with tilling packing and seeding . Changing implements can be a pain even with a QH, especially when you have to go back and forth a mile or so. King cutter pull type is around 800 bucks.
