Working out with a few cinderblocks regularily beats the heck out of having an expensive gym membership you never use....

(I suspect you mean Reliable.).

unreliable fits better describing Chinese generator

ordered my new gen today, due in Nov 4th, Westinghouse 9500/12kw dual fuel
hopefully will not run out of power before then
now I have to find an electrician to do the wiring of exterior 50amp receptacle and interior interlock/circuit panel.
Nice to be back in PA, directly across the street from Solebury township building/police station/fire house substation.

That’s the one I bought!

Lovely generator. And I hooked up the heavy duty (50 amp) Generlink underneath the meter coming into the cottage, so now I have backup power for 2 cottages. And The new generator even has a remote control.

Here it is, with the shed that we are building for it:

Check, I'm going to cheat and buy the premade rain guard someone mentioned here, not as sturdy as your home built though
This is my third Honeywell gen, have had good luck with them.

very interesting discussion with electrician who just left. First, I don't have to have a new interlock panel, he can adapt existing Square D 100amp panel using special interlock master breakers. Second since my hot water heater runs off a second meter, which he doesn't think is active anyway, was used for a discount that doesn't exist anymore, I'm out of luck for hot water most likely. Third he has four generator jobs backed up due to his inability to get parts, including inlet boxes, panels, etc. Lastly, he thought that Generac private labeled the Westinghouse line, that was interesting and a plus for Westinghouse I'm sure. But if Generac is so backed up, what priority will they give to Westinghouse?...

Amazon still shows Nov 4 as delivery date, but they are now running a week late on a HEPA air purifier I was trying to donate to my church, so I'm really wondering if that gen will show up.

The good news is my home is across the street from township building which houses township offices, police station and fire company substation. If power goes down, likely this street is a priority
to get back running.

Dave, hopefully we'll get back on topic soon...;)

All good d......

Parts logistics can be "challenging" these days, for even basic supplies. With a bit of luck, your gen should show up before it gets really cold your way.

Well.... if you're out for a while, you might be boiling water on the stove for a Saturday night bath

Funny what we think is roughing it today :cool2:

Westinghouse manufacturers their own units. the engines are Chinese origin. Generac rebrands alot of units, but i have not heard anything about Westinghouse units. ive worked with Westinghouse gens and they appear top notch units. Never had to service one, not sure where you would do that. Parts for anything sucks. there are NO Homeline breakers to be found around here, so i tried amazon and i will not pay the 600% markups they want for the breaker i need so ill just wait on that job. i was just told today by my Siemens wholesale house that panels are now backlogged, breakers becoming scarce.

i just hope this shocks companies into restarting US manufacture of these devices.

This is what I had done in my last house. Worked well and was much cheaper than the alternative.

When we bought our current house, the home inspector wrote up the Federal Pacific service panel and suggested it be replaced. I knocked off a few thousand on the price and had a a nice new 200amp panel with mechanical interlock installed and had him wire an outlet in my tool shed for my generator.

Ive got dozens of Federal Pacific panels... some were upgrades required by insurance companies for homes with fuses.

Eectricians replacing FP are either real artisans and others total hacks... million dollar homes with uni-strut bolted to the exterior...

Good deal on scoring the upgrade to tailored to your needs.
