One problem.
Multiple solutions!

There should be no problem. That part should be available somewhere or at least a decent photo or part number. Nada

It's a Ford thing, not much out there for the older stuff, all the rust belt states kill everything and move on, the rest of us just get to figure it out :). There's not a huge following on most Fords like there is for other stuff, and being a Ford some odd stuff just doesn't break other than odd circumstances, I get odd stuff breaking on my fleet of Fords, but most are Ranger based, I don't have too much full size experience.

I've always been a Ford and Ranger fan but mostly drove Chevy trucks during my work career. I had good luck with anything I drove. 250K-350K and then they would think about buying me a new truck.

The thing that goes thru my mind, is on all of my 66 years, I have never had to replace one of those, Never seen anyone else replace one, or heard of replacing one. Of course that part of the hood arrives first in any kind of a frontal wreck, but usually the whole hood needs replacement not that striker. I am puzzled by what could have happened to the striker, unless someone took it off because they needed one to repair a wrecked hood or something. That is one part that just seems like it would last 10 car lifetimes. :)

I think you are correct. I have never seen a broken latch striker either. Not the end of the world if I can't fabricate or locate one since it is not a on-highway rig but I hate having anything not working as it should.

Oh, I agree wholeheartedly. I would want it fixed too and fixed right. I am just at a loss as to how it got the way it is. I have just never seen one of these parts missing. All I can think of is someone took it off for some reason.

It's been a while since I've owned that body style ford, but I dont think anything is missing on the hood side.
The flat area with the witness mark is the latching area if i remember correctly.

It appears the leading edge of the hood has some damage? It doesn't take much to keep these truck from latching.

How about if we take some good outside in the sunshine photographs of both the hood and the latch near the radiator so we all can get an idea of what goes where and how this thing is supposed to work..

Here's a pic I found from a 92 F150 (same hood). The mark in the small recessed and reinforced area should be where it latches. 20180411_091905_da041c01107e4633b7b9a73dcab8820eb4576dd8.jpeg

The guy I bought it from was a real jury-rigger and owned a water hauling delivery business. He could keep everything running somehow. The front of the hood has a small wrinkle so he may have just taken that striker off because it was sticking. No biggie.

I think you might be searching for that striker for a long time........

I'd check the latch, make sure its functional, if so I'd look into the adjustments. I've had a lot of them either break the spring in the latch or thr cable hangs up.

Your picture in post #1 is EXACTLY how my 94 F150 looks.
(& my 97 F250HD )
You aren't "missing" anything from the hood side.

Try pulling the hood release from inside with the hood open and see if the latch opens up.

Picture of the latch would help.

I think I'd keep an eye out for the same model truck and ask the owner to show me the mechanism. Then take pictures.

Latch is fine. I'm just missing the Latch Striker that is supposed to be on the hood.

If the latch is fine & functions when you use a screwdriver on it then it can only be the bent hood doesn't let the hood down enough to activate the latch.

The only piece on the hood is the pop-up spring that rests on the top of the Latch when the hood is closed. It causes the hood to pop up some when the hood release is pulled. There is nothing on the hood to latch into the lower mechanism. I will get better photos.

There is no "Striker" on the hood to engage with the Latch.
