44 degrees and a bit clammy from the rain yesterday...chilly enough to sleep in pajamas. High in the mid-50's and overcast, maybe some rain
Chores...dump run as usual. Got to head to Randolph for a bit of shopping.
After that start leaf removal... That with consist of some leaf blowing and mulching with the zero-turn

Couple reasons:
Curtis Cabs are OK...better then nothing and factory cabs weren't too common when the 4520 was sold in 2005
However, if you have to do work behind the instrument panel, the cab has to be removed or, at least, partially disassembled. For example, I needed to replace the fuel tank sender and the cab would require removal (per the dealer. My "fix" was just keeping the tank full
The Curtis cab had a lot of openings to the outside. In defense of Curtis cab, there may have been pieces (gaskets, corner pieces and such) installed initially (in 2005). Even with a heater, it was pretty cold and drafty.
So, a better cab was one of the reasons
No AC available (at time of installation), but the doors could come off and both the front and rear windows could be opened...
So, lack of AC was one of the reasons

Mechanically, the 4520 was great. The Deere Powertech engines are cold natured, but it did have a block heater which was used anytime the temperature was less then 30-35 degrees. So much easier on the engine. Deere uses a Yanmar engine in the newer 4xxx series tractors. I've had three Yanmar powered Deeres over the years...all started easy, even below 30 degrees...but those were all garage kept too. The 4520 (and soon to buy 4052) are too big for may garage
The 4520 was showing it's age, cosmetically...which didn't bother me. Problem was, I'm showing my age (almost 71) and comfort is a bit more important now.

If I could have kept the 4520, and bought a newer cab tractor, I would have had the Curtis Cab removed

Thanks Roy. I'm coming up on 67 and I know what you mean about being cold on a tractor. About 20 years ago I had an open Kubota (B1550, great little tractor) and was removing snow in our driveway and for a few neighbors, etc. I was so **** cold it liked to killed me especially my toes. So the wife says you need to get a cabbed tractor :thumbsup: so before she could change her mind we went to Messicks in Elizabethtown PA and bought my current cabbed B3030 with a/c and heat. I'm sure we don't get the snow/cold like you get but you lived not to far north of us prior to moving to Vermont but having heat in the cab is wonderful. I can plow in complete comfort even when it gets down to single digits. And my wife who can get poison ivy just looking at it uses the B3030 to cut the grass in the summer time with the a/c on and a big Coca-cola in the cup holder. Be safe, Stanley in Md.

We lived in Felton and later, Windsor...both a few miles outside of York and Red Lion. As you know, every 3 or 4 years, we'd get a Nor'easter that pretty much shut the state down. The average temperature in Vermont is colder then PA...and the winter snowfall is normally more (we get nor'easter accumulations every year). I have insulated gear, so I can stay reasonably warm...but getting older does make it tougher...

Went to the Deere dealer...made the deal and the 4052 should be delivered within two weeks...

It's way too wet for leaf blowing...wet leaves don't blow so well...I'm going to try tomorrow...no rain and by tomorrow, those leaves should be dry enough to use the blower...

You know the father retired? All the shops (and a bunch of other tractor dealers in the north east) have been bought out by a Texas outfit named United Ag and Turf.
Kept all the employees though, including Larry's sons.
The tractor is coming from one of the NY shops. I haven't actually seen in in the steel yet, but other then high prices, the S. Royalton shop has always treated me good, so I'm not too concerned.

You gotta wonder why somebody buys a pretty expensive tractor, then sells or trades off with only 320 hours on it. My guess is the 4052 with the loader and other options went pretty close to $50K when sold 4-5 years ago...

I heard about year an half ago there was talk about retirement than early this year about dozen dealerships were bought and have one name saw JD truck delivering new fancy garden tractor with snow blower setup several homes from us...indeed nice looking setup. :thumbsup:

Is that on a SSQA mount to the FEL?

For various reasons (many listed above), I went directly to fab'ing a QA for the front of the tractor (close, FEL removed, floats, less storage room, tighter turns, more robust, etc.)

Yes, SSQA. I had a hydraulic set up on the rear of the tractor and all the dealer did was run two hoses under the tractor to the FEL and now a hydraulic blade. I can use the same lines for any hydraulic SSQA attachment that doesn't need high flow.

Snow pushers are great...but not so great when one has a circular drive
But, it'll do great for you, I'm sure!!!

No circles here. I bought it to replace a walk behind blower that I've had my fill of. The pusher is for cleaning around the house and garage and the if the snow isn't too deep I'll also do the driveway. For big storms I have a neighbor comes in with a large blower.
