It's almost firewood cutting up time again, for me anyways, while everyone else has theirs in and feet up I have 8 cord to cut up and 6 cord to split. And now the temp is right, the sun is shining, the wood is ready, the chainsaws are ready, so whats the hold up, I'm not sure yet but it will come to me, that might take another day or two and more coffee...

I cut poplar today, trying to finish a load. My woodshed is about full, and tomorrow I'm going to deliver a small trailerload to somebody who's going through a hard time.

When I started this last winter I could sell it tree length to the OSB mill. They stopped buying it for a while and now want it in 9 foot pieces. Going through that 6 cord pile was like playing jack straws and took me (almost) forever. Now I need to cut a couple more cords so that I can go back to getting ready for winter.

Nice pile of popple J-peeing. What a pain having to take down a pile and recut to 9'. Helping those in need never gets old - good for you !!

I have no idea what jack straw is, sounds like it could be fun with right equipment. My son was saying that OSB plywood like stuff has triple in price in just the past few years, while tar paper hasn't gone up at all, last time I bought OSB board 25 years it was around $5-7.00. Where is there a OSB mill here?

You may have played Jack Straws, but known it as "Pick up Sticks". Or maybe you didn't. ;)

There's an OSB mill in New Limerick (just outside of Houlton); and another up in Easton, which is the next town east of Presque Isle.
The last time that I bought OSB it was somewhere around $9.00 for 7/16; right now HD has it listed at 25.05. I wanted 18 sheets for a small building I'm putting up; but for that price I'll go down to Marden's for some tarps and wait until the prices come down to a more reasonable price.

Or buy a Hudson sawmill and learn how to use it.

It's too bad that those prices don't trickle down to those of us who are producing the wood.

Oh I played my share of pick-up-sticks bringing out 4' firewood, most times it falls off other times got stuck and had to unload, pto winch is betterah. Think my son was saying last year he paid $8 or $9.00 per sheet and is now like what you said, it was high enough to make him sputter.

Well no firewood cutting today, wife draged me out to get flipping suit, there goes a $100.00 flipping dollars and I DONT WARE SUITS, just dont tell her that. The guy out there what color you want, I dont care ask her I'm just here, stand this way, hold arms that way, face this direction, my wife did all the talking, to him and my daughter on the phone at same time. She's the only one I know of that back in the day could walk around the house carrying on a conversation with people and have a phone on both ears talking to her daughters all at the same time, but now it cell phone chat room....

So when I got back in afternoon son was waiting for help with sawmill add-on, needed a couple more timbers and wanted getting another beam up, when I want a 6x6 I try not to cut a 12" log and try to find something that should be cut down.
