Thank you. Have you ever tried to till ground that is hard and settled?

No, I only have gardened in sand and/or compost. If you don't have the right soil you need a bigger heavier tiller, or tractor, or a raised bed with a good compost mixture. I suggest stating a year ahead of time by staring your compost pile to fill in a raised bed start small and then add gardens make sure you put in an irrigation system if not by a hose.

Good Morning!!!! 74F @ 5:30AM. Some clouds this morning will give way to generally sunny skies for the afternoon. Areas of smoke and haze are possible, reducing visibility at times. High 97F. Winds light and variable.
AQI 54 and 205, inside and out. The air purifier was waiting on me when I got home yesterday, and I let it run all night. Between it and the A/C, AQI was still in the safe range this morning, so I'm glad I didn't waste my money. When I moved the AQI monitor into the bedroom, AQI didn't change, so I can leave the purifier and it's "fan" out in the great room. That's were it spent the night, and when I woke up this morning, the fan was on high and making a fair amount of noise. I suppose you could get used to it after a while, but it's nice to know I won't have to.

Even with four heavy helicopters dumping water on the fire yesterday, it stayed active and is still advancing along a line toward the northeast. The 10-day forecast looks calm until next Friday when a front comes through, kicking up the wind but maybe also bringing a half inch or so of rain. Lord knows we can use it. If nothing else, maybe we'll get a day or two of clean air out of it.

:welcome: Tinhack. Are you doing a rebuild on that tractor, or just touching up a few pieces?

You might be the first one, Bill, to post snow flurries in the forecast this fall:eek:

Hadn't heard yet about POTUS' diagnosis, Drew. Nobody's safe from CV19. Be careful out there, folks!

Speaking of diagnosis, glad your toe's comin' around. Last thing you need as moving day nears. Never got another chance at the firetruck; the neighbor still hasn't made it over yet.

Even the ones that get away are fun with that new rod, Bruce. Are you eating the one you landed, or is it catch'n'release? If the gopher's in his hole, could you put a trap in there and take care of him for good?

Do you suppose slow drains have anything to do with the weather, Ron? I've got one in the bathroom sink now...

Glad to hear Coco's good news, Bill.

Thanks for the pointer, Engineer42. I'll check 'em out.

Better late than never, Don. Raised bed looks beautiful!

Sorry to hear about the wireless cam not working out, Thomas. Hope you have better luck with the new one!

Are you on a well, RS? Could it be dirt or scale in the pressure switch? I need to clean out the one here again...

I've had some luck driving over a tire to break the bead, Ted. But buying a tire machine many years ago was money I don't regret spending.

Got everything I needed done in town yesterday. Flu shot at Costco; shopped after checking in at the pharmacy, was finished by the time the shot was ready, in and out in less than half an hour. Subaru even had the right part, and the mail and parcel boxes were full with a week's worth of held mail when I got home. Not a bad day.

TGIF folks!:drink:

Maybe . . . . Depends on the insurance company and policy. Many years ago I had two repaired and the insurance paid. But the last one I had repaired . . . I learned that my insurance would not pay for it.

I've had the wind shield replaced on the pick-up twice and insurance paid for both. It wasn't all that expensive then but who knows now.

39°F and clear skies this morning, going up to 62° today. Was a chilly walk out to the chicken coop and back. Put on a jacket for the first time since Spring.

Wife and I ate dinner a little earlier than normal last night, and she hit the road for Texas around 6pm. She already knew she wouldn't be able to drive through the whole night, which was my biggest concern, so we got her a hotel reservation in Joplin MO. She made it there about 11:30pm. She was back on the road by 6:30 this morning.

Day 1 of vacation, and my boss already tried to call me at 08:00. I didn't answer. I'd reminded him again on Monday that I would not be there. He sent me a text message about 15 minutes later saying "Never mind. I just found out you are on vacation. F*** you and enjoy yourself. #jealous."

Good luck on the JD, Roy. Maybe you won't have to replace your hats after all.

We have had a couple of days that were as nice as you could ask for.
I mowed at the house Wed. The oaks are starting to fall so I made several trips to the compost pile with leaves.
Yesterday I decided to brave the hog manure stink to mow the farm lane. A hog farmer once asked me "whats the matter don't you like the smell of money". Anyway got the lane mowed and touched up the walnut meadow. I hauled some logs out of the waist high grass back at the log staging area where I leave logs for a neighbor who does firewood. Got the high grass mowed. All together a pretty satisfactory afternoon.

Day 1 of vacation, and my boss already tried to call me at 08:00.

My wife is working 3 days a week on the run up to retirement. She gets calls, emails and texts 5 days a week. She is working at home and loving that but she is working entirely too hard for someone who is hopefully less than a year from the finish line.

Well I got some real bad news this am, my favorite nephew died yesterday from what they think was a heart attack. He was only 61 and a cattle rancher all his life as well as a very accomplished artist. My sister said that he, his son, grand daughter and a hired hand were working the last of the fall heifers when he said he needed to sit a moment because of chest pains. All the young people working with him are EMTs in their small communitie so his son took his blood pressure and it was very high so they took off to the closest hospital. They had to use defibrillator to get him going and called Flight for Life to get him to Colo. Springs but he was D.O.A..

He was my sister and bro. in laws second son, their older son has M.S. and is in a care facility. I really feel terrible for them.
Would appreciate it if those of you inclined would say a prayer for Wade,I'm sure he is in a better place but sure will be missed.

Thanks

Jim

48F and somewhat cloudy @ 10:00, headed to a high of around 57F ... which is well below normal. Today should be the last of days with highs in the 50's ... for at least a while (ten day forecast)

No real outside activities planned for today.

Need to shut off well pump and drain pressure off water system and then use the small compressor to refill and set the precharge in the air bladder in the water tank. It was down to around 15 psi (should be 38 psi) ... also probably pull the sediment/iron filter and replace the that while I have it down.

Draw water for PWC's.

Feed the worm farm and do some fish room maintenance.

Once it warms up a little I need to hunt up the needle scaler (down here at the house I think) and do some work on those hubs after I get the other bearings pulled in the second hub and get them both degreased.

New tires are on the truck and out for delivery by the end of today.

Hope everyone has an enjoyable, productive, and safe day ...
