Thanks. The span is right at 16 feet between the abutment walls. Correct, our leaves are just getting started around here. Some maples are vivid colors already but I don't have many of those at my place. We've had a warm and dry spell for the last week. But chances of frost this coming weekend should get things cranking.

Yeah Old Path, I feel lucky that my creek doesn't really ever dry up. Gets about this low and then stays this way even through a month of drought. It only drains about 600 acres above my place but must be enough elevation drop to catch some ground springs, too.

So you think those three poles spanning 16 feet will hold your tractors weight ok?

:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::confused2: I really dont know until I try it. Is there a beam strength calculator for treated round pine poles on the web somewhere? My max load that I will take across is around 6000 lbs. Distributed on all the tires, but with 3 beams I am calling it a 2000 lb point load in the center of the span for each to be safe(r). A single SPF 2x12 can only span about 9 feet with a 2000 lb load.

I'm getting a "pass" on a 196 inch span for a 9x9 inch square beam with SPF lumber data, with a 2000 lb point load in the center. Which is less cross sectional area than my 12-14" round beams. And I think the fiber stress rating on treated poles is higher compared to untreated spf lumber.

So, should be good. Hope to find out this weekend, though I may not have time to finish all the decking.

This PDF also points to safe conditions, a 12" spruce pole can hold over 300 lbs/ft over a 20 ft span. Thats 6000 lbs for one pole, with distributed loading.

Around here we have forests as thick as they come but I seldom cut a tree. The Doug firs have small percentage of natural root rot fall overs and other species blow down in the wind. So it is more a case of harvesting the ones on the ground. I have about 80 acres of trees to pick from so that helps.

I hear you . . . but I do get a few Dougs that die from the top so down they come.

Seems like a strong wind against the high side of that roof would flip it.

Good thing it aint roofed over now then, we have a high wind warning for tomorrow but I'm really concerned with the 10 feet of snow coming this winter...

It's always good to get the fallen trees first, 80 acres is a lot to pay taxes on, well lot for me...

Might I ask what taxes on 80 acres is up in Maine? You don't have to answer if you don't want to, we pay about $1000 a year for 100 acres with the house and outbuilding's here in the promised land.

170 acres of trees, 30 pasture, (different values on trees vs pasture), house , $3000 per year. Here they can value the land at almost anything that they want to. And they go up in value almost every year, so taxes go up.

I have 22 acres and just paid $2,200.00 so it cost alot to live with 10' of snow in ME, not to mention that cars dont last long either. So why the heck are so many coming here, I keep hearing on the news that reality is soring if you want to sell your house nows the best time cause everyone is coming from MA and NY to ME, STAY AWAY it cost to much to live here, but if your a millionaire pool man from SC and love snow it wont matter and its a great place.......
