I'm going to a dealer tomorrow to look at something advertised on Tractor House. I'm going to ask that question as I've wondered why also.

To busy people, e-mail is a productivity parasite! I've had managers and executives tell me that if I had something important to communicate, pick up the phone or walk over to their office.

so you said they never called you back. you know where the dealer is and have a web site with contact information.
how many days ago did you call them?

or were you waiting for a call from your first offer and never called them

I also appreciate the honest feedback even if it makes me feel bad for my offer.

I'm with you, Dodge Man. We're all here to learn, and in my life learning sometimes stings a little.

To add to the conversation, I like to use Craigslist a lot... both as a buyer and as a seller. Sometimes people are genuinely asking a lot more that an item is really worth. I've found in these instances there's no use offering a reasonable price. They think they know the value, and they'll not be convinced otherwise. These are the listings that I see over and over for months on end.

On another note, one of may favorite parts of dealing through want ads is the opportunity to meet and get to know people who have similar interests. I enjoy the association even if the deal ends up falling through. I will sometimes make a "goodbye" offer that's significantly lower than the asking price, and I'll make it clear that I don't expect them to accept it. Sometimes they surprise me and accept the offer, but usually we part as friends regardless.

The opposite experience is a guy who came to buy a car from me. We were $50 apart on the price after I'd already come down lower than I wanted to. I told him no deal, but he kept hounding me for that extra $50. I told him "no" so many times that I was beginning to wonder if I could call the cops on him for trespassing.

I think I made the offer Monday through Tractor House. I put my phone number in the offer also. I was waiting for them to contact me but that’s not going to happen.

I just received an offer of $3000 on the piece of property I have listed for $14500. Does that even deserve a response? The new septic alone cost over half of my listing price.

I did reply though, I asked why he's wasting my time. I would never make it as a salesman.

if the dealer is local (within a hour) why wouldnt you just call the guy to get more information?
good chance he never got your message. Lots of online stuff just dosent get to where its supposed to go.

if you just called them all of this speculation wouldnt have ever b
been needed. And... I still dont see where you have yet to call.

I wouldn't waste time replying. Sounds like some flipper trying to make a fast buck.
I buy and sell some on Ebay. If I get an offer of half the buy-it-now price I don't respond.
I'm sure if I offered $13K for your property at least we're close.

Gosh, some people have a very thin skin. Ever watch that liquidation show? Guy buys stuff for virtually nothing. That's business. If someone talked really bad about your product, trying to lower the price, that's an insult, but a low dollar offer isn't in my opinion. I mean, if I do that, I try and at least couch it in a nice way. Currently trying to sell a brand new Welder, Generator/Compressor in one package for $5999.00 Got an offer for $3000.00 yesterday. Not offended at all.

Every tries.
The difference is how they go about it.
I've been known to simply say F___off, but on the other hand have played the game.
Sold a generator recently that I asked $100. for as I had back fed it and a repair was not 'in the books'.
Guy wanted $20 off (for travel) so I simply said, take it or leave it! He took it.

Sold a car, Toyota MR2, but that buyer had offered an on line deposit so that I would hold it for him.
After test driving, both he and wife, they again tried to low ball but I said 'nope', he took it.
OK. the MR2 went lower than market so I could hold firm but this was amid COVID and I have no regrets, besides I only did one fill up last summer having used it that little.

On enquires, I've also been frustrated with the lack of replies.
Why do vendors open up web sites and have no intention of responding?
Boggles the mind!
Guess they expect the receptionist to take on this task between responding to phone calls and mailing invoices.
Shucks they spent good $$'s for design and never follow up.

Perhaps the COVID on line shopping phenomena will smarten them up.

If I see something that I really want but is priced too high I will contact the seller and tell them that I would like to make a standing offer which I don't expect them to accept, but to keep me in mind if they can't get their asking price. There was a nice 18" trailer on C.L. that I really wanted but the owner was asking $1800, I had $1500 budgeted and that was my limit. He called me 2 weeks later and asked if my offer was still good. I said sure and he said come and get it. We parted on good terms.

I sell my no longer needed farm implements on Tractor House and never had an issue. I do the auction thing, I love a bidding wat anyway.

As bad as people with Web Sites not responding is Web Sites that are not kept up to date. Like they pay to have it set up and that is the end of that.

I am amazed at how poor some of the CUT manufacturer web sites are. Difficult to navigate, uninformative, not current. They really need better User Interface/User Experience.

No I never did call them. I might some day in the future. I agree with the comments about why setup a bunch of stuff on Tractor House and not maintain it or respond to inquires.

Boy, do companies ever get an earfull when they (always) try and refer you to their time wasting (your time, not theirs) websites.

As bad as asking if you "WANT" someones voicemail. I usually just say I would rather be poked in the eye with a stick.

Ignoring a lowball offer and being offended by a lowball offer can be distinctly different. An offer unworthy of a response is not necessarily offensive, not responding is actually a clear response.

Sorry, I can't agree. Big difference. It's very ambiguous. Not like responding with registered mail. Did the person even get my offer? How much trouble is "Thanks but no Thanks", especially if texted or E-Mailed? I'm far from being the most polite person, and even I would do that. lol

The problem is you have no clue if they even got your offer. It could be sitting in a spam folder that nobody checks. Or the dealer figures that for less than $300 it's better to keep it and possibly throw it in to sweeten a deal for a tractor. My advice would be to come up with the most you would spend for it, get cash (if it's a dealer they will need to charge tax most likely), and go there. I wouldn't tell them that you made an offer on-line. Most likely it's listed as "homemade" simply because they can't confirm the brand. If you've upset them then they shouldn't be in business but I also wouldn't be upset if I've offered too low and they don't reply. In fact I think some people don't reply to low offers to see how serious you are. If you really want it you will reach out with a better offer.
