71 is awfully far along to be hand to mouth.
Or he has had many years of practice

My buddy (71 YO) only had 1/3 of his firewood put up as of last week but he has some standing dead ash he can utilize. He is poor for a reason...hardly ever plans ahead. If he gets hurt, he is in trouble as he cannot afford propane; and is at least a year behind on his property taxes. Offered to help him get some wood split and stacked but he is too proud for that.
I talked to my fiancé about it. We have an extra 5+ cords so we can "loan" him firewood if he gets into trouble. Last time I helped him out, it took a year to get 3 cords from him.
I'm 77 and I could use some help on my wood (just had major surgery on back) and did not get the wood put up . . .jk
Looks like it made a nice post...
I'm going to cut a couple down soon too, I need a couple 6x10's beams...

Congrats to you, hope you like the SIL, I couldn't even imagine the alternative.
I went up to Michigan for a few days to visit my sister and raid her market.. "Cotants Farm Market" up in Hastings MI.
Spent a day canning tomatoes with her and brought a bunch back, along with some tomatoes to make salsa to can, jalepenos, and Jonathon and Honey crisp apples to eat and make apple sauce with. YUM!
