Recall alert: Kobalt chainsaws, pole saws sold at Lowe's recalled

More than 256,000 saws are included in the two recalls posted this week on the Consumer Product Safety Commission website.
No injuries have been reported, but consumers are urged to stop using the recalled saws immediately and to contact distributor Hongkong Sun Rise Trading for a free repair.
For 106,400 Kobalt brand 40-volt Lithium Ion 8-inch Cordless Electric Pole Saws, the recall says the switch "can fail while under a heavy load, and cause the unit to continue running after the user releases the trigger, posing a laceration hazard to consumers."

Another 150,000 Kobalt Brand 40-volt Lithium Ion Cordless Electric Chainsaws are also being recalled because the saws can remain "on," the recall states. There have been 48 reports of the "switch contacts welding causing the chainsaw to remain in the 'on' position."

"Hongkong Sun Rise Trading", well that sounds reliable. Kobalt, eh?

I will NEVER purchase anything Kobalt again. I purchased one of their miter saws a few years ago only to have the fan blades in the motor shatter after about a year of sometime, home owner use. Easy enough to fix IF parts were available and they were not. NO parts, discontinued item and barely a year old. This was suppose to be their best quality saw at the time.

I THINK it is still a safe bet that Makita is still made in Japan!

I would hope you are correct.
SOME are, "Makita Corporation (TYO: 6586) is a Japanese manufacturer of power tools. Founded on March 21, 1915, it is based in Anjō, Japan and operates factories in Brazil, China, Japan, Mexico, Romania, the United Kingdom, Germany, Dubai, Thailand and the United States." so you never know where the tool is made until you buy it, and look at the lable!!.

I would be pissed to pay a premium price to get a better tool and find out it is not much better than the junk HF sells.

BTW, I have a 4 1/2" angle grinder I got on sale at HF for $5 almost two years ago and it still works. Should have bought 5 of the stupid things and have a "lifetime" supply. Sometimes cheap is all I need. The Milwaukee cost $90.
