Late 1980s Husky 50.......was running like a top all Spring.

Let it sit for 6 weeks or so now haven't been able to get it to really fire up AT ALL.

Replaced plug. Emptied fuel from cylinder and tank. Replaced fuel filter. Added store bought 50:1 Husky mix to take the "bad fuel" issue off the table.....cleaned carb.....

Saw sputters for 1 second....literally one second on the first pull.........with the choke open......all subsequent pulls yield literally nothing.

I am stumped......

Any thoughts? What am I missing.......

I would try a figure if you are getting spark. I usually pull the plug and the hold the plug near something metal on the saw and then turn it over. Harder than it sounds to do that.

if it cranks over same as usual could be spark issue, if the plug gets wet then has to be spark problem.

I wish that I knew the answer. My Stihl Farm Boss started fine, like yours.......all spring....but lately it is really hard to start. I get the sputter but takes a lot of extra pulls to get it going. I've been wondering if a teaspoon full of Sea Foam would help???:confused3:

Cheers,
Mike

Some say they have good luck straightening their saws out with that $20.00/gal pre mixed gas.

Lately it seems plugs don’t last like they used to. I use to run same plug for years.
A new plug has fixed a few hard starters this year. Even when spark looked ok.

You are "missing" having a battery powered saw!
Starts with a push of the button......every time!

It's on the list for our cabin in VT. After regular maintenance it seems everything 2-stroke hates me now......my trimmer up there AND this saw are both on strike. So a combo medium duty saw and trimmer combo will be in the future. BUT I am a gas saw guy at heart......

Regarding said saw......I have swapped plugs multiple times, the one in there now is brand new. I tried the trick of holding it against metal but gave up as it is a total PITA. I will try it again.

I also have it filled with the million dollar fuel as well........

Fingers crossed on one hand and middle one raised on the other pointed directly at the saw......

Have you made any attempt to change the low idle high rpm settings.

I have not....... my thought process was "it was running like a top with the existing setting so eliminate everything else first before playing with things you don't understand"....
