After a slow start due to a minor winch cable jam that took a while to unjam, we cut and moved all the pine from next to the house.
It was quite windy with gusts seeming to blow from all directions so I hooked a snatch to a stump and tensioned every tree so they only went where I aimed them.
Probably a ten trees that will yield a few sawlogs and a lot of "biomass".
But it has opened up the view from and feel of our screen porch and more importantly, removed the danger of trees falling on the house.
A few more of the small hardwoods still to go.
The pics really don't show tall and dense it was and how open it now is, those 70 foot tall pines blocked a lot of light.

Glad it worked out OK, but if it were me, I'd have waited for a calmer day. No sense making things more complicated than they need to be.

You probably are right, discretion etc, but between the winch and directional falling techniques, I felt I had enough of a safety factor to pull it off.

Will the three point lift this load, the winch and trailer without your roof winch?

Photo remains for effect

So what do you do with all those logs?? Lumber and firewood, or do you sell them? And how much property do you have to harvest them? Just curious...

Very good question glad you ask I was bored anyways, do you want the short answer or the long answer, ok the short answer it is then...................

Between me and my son we have around 38 acres, and it seems like with a sawmill theres always something that needs to be built, since 2011, one 14'x30' sawmill building,,, in 2012 a 10'x32 porch,,, also in 2012 a 14'x28' shop addition,,, in 2013-2014 new 26'x36 garage build with 14' walls, in 2014-2015 a 30'x40' two story house for son, also in 2015 a 10'x16' pantry that was on a 5 year old honey-doo list,,, in 2017 a 14'x36' lead-to on garage,,, in 2019-2020 a 10'x70' porch addition on sons house but all decking was cedar that he bought,,, in fall of 2020 a 12'x20' storage shelter for cedar shingles and 14'x28' roof addition on sawmill building for lumber storage,,, in 2021 new railings and some deck replacements on my 12x24' porch,,, in 2022-2024 a 14'x32" an old folks addition on back my house in case the wife lives til 106,,, in 2025-2026 a 12x18' UTV and miscellaneous building................. I didn't mention my AC storage box because it's not very big and only took me two days to make and the cedar was donated.

In 2027 a scheduled year off from all constant logging building and just go into a quick nail fix routine for the next 20 years, in 2050 my land will be ready for logging again so I might have to get another tractor by that time, I'm leaning towards the Toyota XKE model.........................

In 2050 I would be 91 years old and lucky to be able to walk my woodlot, let alone do another cutting cycle. I suspect I'll be pushing up geraniums long before then...

How did you get out?

I dropped the hitch and the tractor barely crawled out, after two trips in late March that was the straw that broke the camels back, yeah I was nervous for a minute when one side went down.....

I'll only be a 104 but might have to cut back on jogging 10 miles a day..........

Ok. I知 not as experienced around these small tractors to be honest. I spent a lot of time off trail with the j5s. But being a full body frame, we壇 hook a chain on to just about anything a pull one out. And that might be in a place I壇 dare not go in a tractor. I just wonder how you壇 hook onto one go pull it out.
