Good morning all

63 now dew point 63 high of 88 today.
Got some rain showers the past day or two. Only about half inch but some is better than none!

Not much going on for projects until weather breaks.

Those dealing with the smoke and wildfires stay safe.

Everyone enjoy your day.

Good morning!
75 going to 89 today in warming trend.
Errands this morning, laundry and food shopping, then back for a quiet day. And then one more trip out to pick up laundry.

Phil, hope they fix your a/c today.
Ted, I opened the battery box on my rv just to check on things, was still pretty clean, two AGM batteries in there, should last awhile. I don't do dry camping/boondocking
so my electrical needs are pretty limited. House batteries always kept charged by two 100watt solar panels on roof.

All those in path of bad storms, hope this isn't too bad for you. Marco seems to have died down and hung a left to the West before it hit New Orleans, while Laura
is still on track for a big curve back over the MidAtlantic

Good morning, rain has been hammering down all night and is set to keep coming for the rest of the day. Really windy too, a few tree branches are down. I suppose looking on the bright side, no trudging around fields with a knapsack sprayer today :)

Yesterday morning after a bump on the head, my wife suddenly started seeing flashes in one eye. Same thing happened to me a couple of years ago, so I know flashes are generally a harmless side effect of getting older, however they may also be a sign on an impending retinal detachment, so it is very important to get it checked out within 24 hours. She talked to our optician in the morning, after which she got an emergency appointment to see a different optician in another town. After a drive at slighter higher speeds than normal we made it there on time, with Covid-19 helping to provide space in the nearest car park. Fortunately the tests showed no major issues and we returned home to spend what was left of the dry and sunny afternoon at a much relaxed pace.

Ken, a lot of firewood in an ash that size. Few things as satisfying as having a tree land in exactly the right place

Wng, glad you enjoyed the surprise visit. A few years back our son also made such a visit - he got the biggest surprise, we were not at home

Eric, sorry your wife went through that and glad she is doing ok.
As we get older, annual eye exams really are important, as annoying as they can be with drops
and the constant "is it better this way or that way"?...
Medicare here will pay for the basic exam but if one wants the higher tech exam, usually another 50-100 dollars more.
I used to not pay for it, now I do.

Eric...fast speedy recovery for your bride.

70 and saturated, going to 94 and sunny.

Good one, BEF. (critter sized)

Ken, nice job of felling that big tree...if you're like me, you go from a state of excitement/pending danger as the big tree begins to fall, to one of euphoria when it lands safely in the right place.

RNG, if it wasn't for the long drive and smoke, I'd be asking to visit you right about now (chili, spaghetti, green chile chicken stew).

Roasted some nice coffees yesterday morning while the grass dried, and then mowed most everything except where the ground is still too soft. Grass was dry on the outside, but very moist on the inside. Local weather man said if the hurricane remnant moves over us, it could rain enough to move us up to the all time August rainfall record.

Waiting on first cup of coffee to cool. 66° with partly cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 85° with partly cloudy skies. Finished siding repairs yesterday. My Aunt is coming over today to help with putting up curtains in Garage, Shop and Pole Barn. I know, why. Wife put them up many years ago. They are falling apart. I got a volunteer to help me replace them. :D Then get in from the heat.
Found this tent worm while working on siding.

Eric, good wife is OK.

Phil, hope you get AC fixed soon.

David, I heard Zoom was down yesterday. Did it affect you.

Rich, enjoy your week off.

LS, did you modify your original plan for batteries.

Thomas, nice tongs. I had a set for years. Sold them after I made my grapple.

Mostly, my tree trimming has been on hold for a couple months now. Maybe next week.

RNG, way to many fires. Stay safe.

Everyone stay safe and healthy.

Good Morning All.

Good Morning!!!! 77F @ 4:00AM. Sunny. High 97F. Winds S at 5 to 10 mph.
Still very smoky here, with unhealthy air quality and above normal temperatures. Dante would feel right at home!:fiery:

What a relief that monster is on the ground, Ken. Sorry about the peaches. Darn tree rats!

With the flooring, A/C work, and painting, Phil, you're giving RS a run for his Eveready Bunny title!

Glad the flashing wasn't due to something more serious, Eric. But did the doctor say what caused it?

Glad the demolition went well, Thomas, and your tongs saved you some work!

Yesterday's chili was a banner batch, with a nice smoky flavor and just the right amount of zing. Had some for lunch, and it was so good, had more for dinner.:licking: The rest goes into the freezer this morning, quick before it's gone!

The conversation with the tractor mechanic yesterday got me wondering just how fast the hydraulic valves on the top'n'tilt were leaking down, so I decided to take some video and see. Let the camera run fifteen minutes on each of the three valves, then one more time with the hoses disconnected to show that the cylinder wasn't leaking. Put it all together in one video, probably the most boring one to date. But it does show that all three valves are leaking, one quite badly. I could probably make do with just the other two for top'n'tilt, and reserve the bad one for the mower side shift or down force on the auger, and I'm having some doubts about going to the trouble of taking it all apart and sending it in for replacement. We'll see what the mechanic says after he sees the video.

After an hour on the phone, half of which was wasted when the phone battery died while on hold, I finally have the new electric rate charges. The utility forced me to a "time of use" structure when I started selling surplus energy to them, whereas before it was a simple two tier deal, with a higher cost being levied after a certain "baseline" number of kWs were consumed. The new rate is still two tired, and also fluctuates during the day. I also learned there is yet another plan available that does away with the baseline, and includes weekends and holidays at the Off Peak rate. I can't imagine a more convoluted and difficult to analyze system, all made possible by those infernal computers. Not sure if a spreadsheet or Ouji board would be a better tool for determining the least expensive rate structure to use. FWIW, last month's bill for 716 kWh was $192, and will be the last before the solar power system was working. But the biggest laugh came last week when I heard PG&E propaganda crowing about their rates being among the best in the country.:irked::laughing:

Old Rate:
Tier 1 - $0.24373 kW/h, 426 kWh Baseline
Tier 2 - $0.3672 kW/h, over Baseline

New E-TOU-C Rate:
Oct - May June - Sept
Baseline 14.2 kWh/day 12.0 kWh/day
Peak - 4PM - 9PM Baseline $0.32697 Baseline $0.22991
Above Baseline 0.4133 Above Baseline $0.31624
Off Peak - 9PM - 4PM Baseline $0.26356 Baseline $0.21258
Above Baseline $0.34989 Above Baseline $0.29891

New E-TOU-D Rate: Oct - May June - Sept
No Baseline
Peak - 5PM - 8PM $0.29089 $0.36476
Off Peak - 8PM - 5PM $0.27351 $0.26980
All weekends and most holiday hours are off-peak

Also did some more planning for the water tank system, focusing on the size of the terrace that would need to be cut into the hillside to support the tank or tanks. The deeper the cut, the more likely it is I'll hit rock, so a small diameter tank is better in that respect. But if I remove more than 100 cu. yd. of material, I have to pay for a grading permit. That got me looking at 10,000 gallon plastic tanks which have a much smaller diameter than the steel hoop with plastic liner designs, which apparently aren't strong enough to have much height. Three of the 10,000 gallon plastic tanks would need right around 100 cu. yd. of material removed, and would end up costing, depending on how far they have to be shipped, a few hundred bux less than the other combos. I just have to figure out how to plumb them, and whether or not they'll be part of the drinking water system, or held strictly for emergency purposes. Decisions, decisions...:confused2: No wonder I don't sleep well...

You know how when a YouTube video finishes, they display thumbnails of other videos in the window? One of those thumbnails just now said Makita Killer, superimposed over a yellow housing of something that could only have come from DeWalt. And being a bit put off by my recent Makita experience, and somewhat impressed by the DeWalt compound meiter saw I snagged to do the flooring here, there was no way I could pass up watching that video. And I was blown away, not by the DeWalt, but by the guy doing the review! Aside from his crusty Canadian accent, he actually seemed to know what he was talkin' about, as he took the grinder apart and critiqued each of the parts! And not just looked at 'em, but looked at 'em under a microscope, filed on 'em, even burned samples of 'em. And that was just in part1! I dunno if I even need a new angle grinder, 'cause I'm pretty happy with my Bosch. But when it craps out, I'm gonna hunt this guy up and see what he recommends for the next one...

Good morning! 66 now, supposed to get to 89 later. Got a decent rain shower yesterday, not long enough, but some badly needed rain. Possibility of some storms this afternoon.

Yesterday was kind of a lazy day. See what today brings. Have an appointment for a haircut today.

Everyone stay safe out there

Figs are coming in great this year, Tomatoes , not so much.

Eric - Glad wife is ok, hope not too many branches down
Thomas - hand dug ditch-been there , done that, no way to get tractor back there ?
Ron - good to see your getting an assistant
RNG- Paying about .14 per KWh here in PA-Hope you get the valves sorted-any way to disassemble and see if it's just springs worn out? I hope they get the fires under control and the weather cooperates.

Stay safe and be well and hope we here from Jay soon

72°F and clear skies with some fog this morning, going up to 96° again today. We hit 97° yesterday, and it definitely felt like it; typical hot and humid August day. Looks like we'll get relief when the storms in the gulf move past us later this week.

Hope all is well with Jay.

Good morning! Already hot and humid, guess I’ll mow today to avoid so much clumping, every 5 days is not my idea of fun.
Over the last week or so I’ve found my tailgate open, thought I was getting senile and leaving it open, then yesterday I got a recall about the tailgate latch sticking. I thought I would take look before fooling with the dealer, I pulled the liner and access plate off and sure enough the latch wasn’t coming all the way to the stop. That prevented the end latches from locking around the strikers. So I got out the PB Blaster and sprayed every connection and all parts of the handle, worked it a few times and just like that, it works! Maybe I’m not senile after all.

Looks like we will get rain and wind from Laura about Saturday night, I feel for those in its direct path, I’m afraid it’s going to be a bad one.

Have a good, prayers guys.

Good morning to all! Same weather, same smoke (however last evening it got really heavy), same heat.....

Ron, no, the battery tray stayed the same, to turn the direction of the batteries would have been more trouble than gain....

Eric, glad to hear that your wifey checked out ok. Things like that can be scary to say the least! Stay dry today.

Rng, you are making me have second thoughts about getting a T&T setup..... Our electric co-op rates are at $0.132 KWH, no changes to time of day usage, etc... Commercial rates are about double.

I forgot.... need to do some errands this morning before getting out to the fuel transfer cart project.... hopefully they won't take too long.

Got an email this morning from our internet service provider, they will have 3-4 hour periods of service interruption between 11am and 5 pm today and tomorrow.... should wreak havoc on the students attending online school.... including my grandson and granddaughter who are here..... what can you do?

There is a new ISP coming to our area within the next few months, they are installing fiber lines as of a month ago a couple miles away. That service will be 10x faster, more reliable, and costs less than our current provider by 20%. ... I can't wait!

I need to get moving.... places to go, people to see, things to pickup....
Everyone have a great day!

Morning RNG;
On your top n tilt valves do they have a float function?
If not have you considered a lock valve;
Lock Valve 1/2" NPT 25 GPM 3 PSI Prince Mfg RD-145 | Check & Lock Valves | Hydraulic Valves | Hydraulics | www.surpluscenter.com
These would lock your cylinder in place untill you power it to a new position.

Yes, all three valves have float, and I'd really like to preserve that.

This is a new top'n'tilt kit from Kubota, something like $3500 worth of hydraulics. I'd have thought they'd do a better job for that kind of money, but then again, it's Kubota...
