What's the down side of grass in the drive?

It's still bank run gravel, it dries nicely, and there is no real mud. The snow still blows off in winter.

Is there any reason to scrape and rake the drive?

I like the looks of a grass drive. My dad had brick sidewalks and let the grass grow through them. We just mowed it short and it looked fine.

I think a grassy lane looks nice. We had a gravel driveway when I was a kid. There was always a strip of green down the middle. My dad tore it out and moved it when I was a teenager when he split the lot to build a house for his parent. Then he put in slag instead of gravel. The grass never did grow in the middle of that one.

Grass grows down the middle of most all of my mile long gravel driveway. I think it's a nice "country" touch.

Several neighbors on my road had long 2 track drives for years. I always liked them, but from talking to some of these neighbors they say they are a pain to maintain long term. Eventually the center builds up higher and catches slow plows that then dive in deep. Getting fresh gravel to top off the tracks is not as easy. Just this summer I realized there are no 2 tracks left on my road. They have all reworked the drives into full gravel.

Depends on the look you like.
I have a large circular driveway, covered with crushed white shells.
It looks very nice, when clean and white, with no grass or weeds.
I spray the driveway with glyphosate two or three times each year.
Just did it yesterday!

We had the long lane with the grass down the middle, and a circle with large trees in the middle, and a few parking spaces and the carport. The circle never had grass growing between the tire tracks, probably because, well, the cars were turning and running it over all the time. The parking spaces were mostly grass.
