Overnight Mods

Y'all need a couple of Mods here overnight to smyte the spammers. Seems there are a few longer term, higher post count members here during the time the spammers hit the boards that they could be enlisted to go on the counter-attack and flush them within minutes.

Of course it depends on who's 'overnight' you're referring to. I typically see them around 5-6 in the evening AEST. It's no biggie to report them.

The thing that I don't understand is "What's their game?" this time around. It's usually all text without a working 'link'. :confused3:

For now this seems like a solution waiting for a problem. While spammers come in occasionally they usually are taken care of in a timely manner.
What I don't understand is why somebody would join and not post for several years, then all of a sudden have a half dozen spam or nonsensical posts.
Could it be that his unused account was hacked?

IMO...A relative noob adjuring for the power of being a mod is funny...!
Only fresh noobs click on spam posts it's not an issue...they are well policed...!

IMO...Those that seek power are usually the last ones that should have it....

This brings up a topical subject with current issues with law enforcement...IMO the problems start at the onset...a lack of screening/vetting of police academy recruits is the real issue...the response to the question "why do you want to be a policeman" is simply not investigated deeply enough...IMO

Yeah, no. There's not enough work for a couple overnight mods. The spam was reported by a TBN member 2 minutes after it was posted, and that member then put a post in that thread that it's spam and that it was reported. From that point on, anyone reading that thread would have seen that it's spam, and therefore shouldn't have clicked on the link (something no one should do anyway without inspecting the URL first ).

It's my opinion that TBN is almost self-policing by the membership when it comes to spammers.

I went to be early last night, but am usually up till well after midnight and almost always check it before I got to bed. Some of the other mods are early risers, and frequently check before 6, so there's usually only a 4-5 hour gap in mod eyeballs overnight.

And besides that, spammers take a very small amount of moderator time. 99% of the mod time is spent reading/pruning you know what by you know who. If that workload would go away, the only mod work would be helping members with duplicate threads, moving posts to appropriate forums, and generally just doing custodial work.
