Yes, I believe that all states which allow "recreational doubles" require that the first trailer be a 5th wheel.

No not out here in the west. You see 2 bumper pulls in ID and UT all the time. I just got back from SLC. I saw lots of them on Sunday of the 4th of July weekend. At least 25. Most were pulling a boat or a trailer with ATVs.

Combines are called that because they combine the functions of a reaper (which cuts the grain) and the threshing machine (which separates the grain kernels from the rest of the plant). The more advanced reapers were reaper-binders which bound the plants into bundles in addition to cutting them. McCormick (which became International Harvester) was one of the first major reaper-binder manufacturers.

Then the pickup trucks made by IH became nick-named "Binder" , because of its ties to the AG company,,,

Here in Indiana, surrounded by IH plants it was always "Binders"

Dad had one of those IH pickups in the 70's. Huge engine, three gas tanks, 4wd. Once we had to pull a Mack R model from Newberry MI down to Grand Rapids MI because of a blown engine. Took a 3" gas pipe, welded a ball hitch coupler to one end. Other end got a u joint end and its other end was welded to a steel channel. The steel channel was then bolted to the front bumper of the semi. (no trailer) Drug it to Gaylord for the night and went on from there in the morning. Dad drove the pickup and I steered the Mack. Pumped up the air tank on the Mack for brakes if I needed them. Carried a 55gal drum of gas in the pickup. Unfortunately no pictures of that setup. Also after the engine rebuild, I went down with dad to pick the Mack up. Unbeknownst to me, dad told me get in the semi and take it home and he took the pickup. I had figured I would be taking the pickup back. (I also had to take a different semi up to Newberry to pull the trailer home.) I was 16 or 17 at the time. I had no chauffer's license yet. Got it at 18, though. Jon

My dad had a 66 Corn Binder pickup. It was his company truck. The company did away with company trucks in 70 and just gave it to him. He kept it until the gas lines in 73. It only had a 19 gallon tank and got about 6 MPG. Not good for gas lines. That big V8 and 4 speed with low gears could pull anything.

I honestly have never heard anyone refer to them as a "Cornbinder" until I posted in this thread a few days ago.

It must be a regional thing! Always was "Binder" around here!

Only binders I know of were used on chains.
