That's why it's so expensive for the rest of us that don't do stupid stuff!

In regards to liability, you could probably understand the complications if insurance paid for things for which the insured is liable, but only if that liability was incurred in doing something not stupid. So you pull out of the Starbucks into the path of another vehicle, was that stupid? Yep, coverage denied. So of course that won't work. I have been out of the insurance world for 20 years now, but if you have a full coverage policy it covers about anything short of intentional acts, limitations on racing and a few other odds and ends.

It even covers people hauling or towing something wrong, even very wrong, and now we are back on subject.

^^I agree....plenty of entertainment to be had. Just bring drinks and a lawn chair!
We'd watch the guys who would back in the water too far, then undo the winch rope, then watch as their boat floated away, or the guy who doesn't back in far enough, climb in and gun the throttle trying to get the boat off the trailer, or the guy who backs in too far empty, then puts the boat "over" the trailer then when he drives out the boat is 1/2 off the side. Actually only about 1/2 could actually back up the trailer the first time!!! Good times. This was about 40 years ago and I still remember it!

When I had a boat I hated waiting for those guys to get out of the way so I could use the ramp. But I have since learned the 2 best days of owning a boat are the day you buy it and the day you sell it.

Makes you wonder how many Lemon Ford Diesels "accidentally" slipped beneath the waves.

Back when I had both a hunting boat and a fishing boat, I had a buddy that was constantly pulling the plug, regardless of what we were doing. There is a local lake that when the water is high, it becomes 2 different parts, you had to trailer from one to the other, less than 500yds, this idiot pulled the plug after I pulled the boat out of the southside. I head to the northside ramp, back the boat in the water, park the truck while he motors back around to pick me up, I jump in the boat and there is 3-4" of water in it, he's like, oh, I pulled the plug, I ran the boat to shore and beached it before it got any deeper. I never could get him to stop, he bought a boat and nearly sank it the 2nd time out because he forgot the plug.

SOP is to point toward open water and give it some gas. If the boat has any kind of power the water will run out, then you can put the plug in. Unless you're like me and have a 12 foot boat with a 4 HP Evinrude... a lake's equivilence of a moped.

Does it cover people who are over the weight limit on their special yellow sticker inside the door?

Yes it does. It covers stupid, careless, etc. Think of this, it covers a drunk driver that t-bones a car and kills people in the other car. That's a lot more egregious than being overweight. It's really coverage for the other guy when we talk about liability. First party car damage (fire/theft, collision) is a little different, but still broad coverage.

An underwriter can and will cancel or non-renew your policy after such a loss because they have determined that you are a huge risk, but they have to pay your claim.

Back to tractors, hauling, and so forth.

Sounds like some of my fishing buddies. Had one that said he would put the plug in for us. He did...put it in from outside the boat. Glad I double checked before we launched.

That is a fact!

Sure. I'm not questioning that they do. Just stating that this is why insurance is expensive. And the nature of insurance is such that the costs get spread out over all customers (yes, I know people with issues pay more, but not 100%).
