A huge day for America's space program...

Finally after 9 years American astronauts will rocket into space from American soil...it seem like an eternity considering only 66 years elapsed between the Wright Bros flight and the lunar landing...

The Falcon 9 rocket and the Crew Dragon capsule are the most modern space vehicle is a marvel that makes the shuttle look like a horse and wagon...

Godspeed to the crew and all involved...

SpaceX - wow....

NASA - good to see us back in the game!

The whole show is very interesting, politics, governments, personalities, budgets, attitudes, customs and business. Just wow.

Ditto on Godspeed.

I would be inclined to scrap much of the program. Satellites and such ... fine. But I don't see a need for the rest.

He does have a right to his opinion.

He also has the right to be wrong.

I was disappointed to see that it was postponed, but that means I may be able to watch it take off. The last time I remember doing that was when Neil Armstrong stepped out of the Lunar Module. That really was a milestone in US history as well as space exploration.

You made me look. I can't personally verify the numbers, but I found 134 space shuttle flights to the tune of 1.6 billion dollars PER flight.

My understanding from what I've read in the past to help cut down on costs (not certain if it's true or not) is that this new system is going back to the capsule coming back to earth, parachutes deployed, landing in water.

Don't know if that 90 million per flight of this newer system included sending people after the astronauts in the water or not.

I will be watching next Sat, again. Pity the two astronauts having to sit in the capsule, waiting, for so very long. At least, the launch wasn't pushed and they didn't need the capsule escape system.

And this isn't.

Actually it is. We have a fledgling space industry now based on consumerism and adventure (for those that can afford it). In addition the technology advancements coupled with new ways and ideas of doing things has been greatly expanded.

I view the launch, and the entire eco-system behind it, as a turning point for the entire nation as it looks to take advantage of a new frontier.

One of the more amazing aspects of the Space X system is reusable first stages and boosters...watching them return to Earth and land vertically on a landing pad either at the cape or on a ship is truly like watching something from old Si-Fi movies...

This greatly reduces the cost per launch...

The landing on a ship is really cool. Think of all the variables that entails.
