CPAP cleaners stink!

GREAT! Yet another device in my life that I have no control over and have to rely on other people and systems. THAT doesn't sound very appealing. Can't just sell people things once anymore. EVERYTHING has to be about recurring revenue.

I set my own parameters. You can get the medical access to just about any machine on the Net. I can run mine low or crank it up and spray paint with it if I want to.... I don't.:D

Don't need any RT getting rich from me. I can do just fine on my own and have been for many years.

The trick' if you want to call it that is consistent, every night use. Took me a while to get used to a mask but now, I cannot zee out without a mask on. 45 is spray paint level. You'd need to chain your mask on....lol
45 WASN'T MY AIR PRESSURE, IT WAS THE NO.THEY USE TO RATE THEIR TEST. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IT MEANS. MY ORIGINAL AIR PRESSURE WAS 14, I QUICKLY GOT THAT LOWERED TO 9--STILL THERE. 14 WOULD BLOW MY MOUTH OPEN AND DRY IT OUT---COULD'N EVEN SPIT.

The Mrs & I both use them.
Both machines are dismantled and hand cleansed weekly.
Just soap and water does a fine job.
No smells or odd tastes, ever.

I RECENTLY HAD AN APPOINTMENT WITH A DOC ABOUT MY MACHINE ( NEW THIS YEAR--2ND MACHINE) SHE TOLD ME TO PUT NEW WATER IN THE TANK EVERY DAY. I ASKED IF SHE WOULD LIKE TO SEND ME SOME. SHE SAID DON'T FILL IT ALL THE WAY UP. I MUST SAY NO ONE ON THIS THREAD CLEANS THERE MACHINE AS INFREQUENTLY AS I DO. ABOUT EVERY 3 OR 4 MONTHS. NEVER HAD A PROBLEM. CLEAN IN THE KITCHEN SINK WITH DISH SOAP AND GOOD RINCE. THEY ALSO WANTED ME TO LET THEM INSTALL A PROGRAM THAT WILL MONITOR MY BREATHING AND CHANGE THE AIR PRESSURE AS NEEDED, AUTOMATICALLY. I TOLD THEM NOT AT THIS TIME. WHEN I HAD MY SLEEP TEST, THEY TOLD ME ANY NO. HIGHER THEN 5 MEANT NEEDED A CPAP. MINE WAS 45. AFTER I USED THE NEW MACHINE, IT WAS 4.5. IT HAS GONE UP A LITTLE, THATS WHY THEY WANTED THE NEW PROGRAM.

I have been using my CPAP for just over 5 years.
I am absolutely fastidious about cleaning my machine!
Like you,..... I clean it once every 3 or 4 months,..... whether I think it it needs cleaning or not.
I do dump the previous day left over water, and fill fresh to the low fill line daily.

I don't understand why y'all in the humid areas of the country need a humidifier on your machines. I thought that 50% humidity was the preferred level and we run a dehumidifier to get it down to that. I've tried the humidifier and can't tell any difference between using it and not using it. So I don't use the humidifier. Am I missing something?

Hydrogen peroxide is very effective and doesn't require very much. I have a long pipe cleaner brush for the hose.

I have gone back to soap and water. Daily, I either rinse off my mask or wipe it one of those disinfectant wipes. The hose and tank get washed once a week. I replace my mask monthly and filter on my ResMed monthly. The hose, tank and head gear every six months. All covered my Medicare and my supplement. No way I could get well rested without my machine.

Can someone please explain why so many people require this for the ability to sleep?

I mean, it's not like you aren't getting air, lying there snoring.

A doctor can explain it.
I had a woman cardiologist explain it to me, and I was convinced!
She was a professor of cardiology at Harvard medical school, and truly a brilliant Dr.
When you snore, your heart apparently may have intermittent stoppages.
Eventually you may have "the big one" in your sleep, with this condition.

That is kind of the way I would prefer to leave this earth.

My Doctor is Six hours away round trip. Thank You OHIP. Hard to have a consultation.

Understood....but don't you want to put "the big one" off as long as possible?

My wife and I both have a cpap. Before she got hers there were times when she would quit breathing to the point where I wondered if she was still alive. She would quit up to a minute at a time. Then snort and choke trying to get air once her body noticed that she needed it. When your throat falls over your air passage the oxygen levels in your blood go very low. You do not go into the deep sleep (rem?) your body needs to get a proper rest.

When I started with mine I was very impressed with how much more rested I felt after a night's sleep. I didn't have restless legs any more and I feel a lot more rested after a night's sleep. I can sleep without it but I sure notice the difference in energy levels.

I have plenty of that around all the time but not the grocery store stuff. I buy 15 gallon carboys of 35% H2O2 for my water system injection. Peroxide comes in a couple concentrations. 3% is what you buy in the store. 35% can be food grade or pharmaceutical grade depending on the end use (I buy pharm grade myself) and then there is 99% which is the oxygen supply for a solid booster rocket engine.

H2O2 is a potent oxidize, especially in 35% and it's photochemically reactive so it must be stored in a non translucent container in a cool place. The carboy's come with a special gas emitting valve on the top just in case a temperature extreme causes the peroxide to gas off.

When transferring it to a smaller container to add to my injection pump, I wear chemically repellant gloves and safety glasses. You get even a drop in your eye you are blind. Nasty stuff but it's the only oxidizer that will liberate sulfur dioxide from well water. It chemically bonds with the sulfur and precipitates it into a solid which I filter out of the raw water. OIne nice side effect is it kills 100% of any microorganisms in the water so my well water always tests good. No bacteria in it.

It takes a special license to buy it as well. I get it through my farm with my pesticide / herbicide applicators license.

Peroxide lesson for today...lol

I sometimes wonder if SIDS is sleep apena in an infant???? A little tyke could easily succumb to loss of oxygen from a throat issue.

I call you a weaver....lol I can sleep without mine as well but I notice the difference in the morning and I can go maybe 3 days max and I'm a zombie.

Personally, I prefer expiring in my sleep. Sleeping is as close to death as you can get without expiring. I'd like to do the eternal sleep thing and never wake up.

I know since I came back from the edge (had a 30% chance of surviving Stage 3 cancer and I'm 100% cancer free far as I know), I relish every morning when I open my eyes but, having said that, my preference is still passing in my sleep.

Heck, I spent 6 hours on the operating table and I look like a field dressed deer (getting better though) and even in ICU, I had one of my machines (the S8) at my bedside. Once I was off oxygen (nasal cannula), I was on my BIPAP.

The hospital would have supplied me with a machine and mask but I had my wife bring mine in. I will say my nurses washed my mask, hoses and cleaned my humidifier container and refilled it with distilled water every morning. Boy, was I spoiled.:D Cannot get my wife to do that...lol

Good grief. I heard Canadian Medicine was good. Don't sound like that applies. I live in a very remote rural area and my hospital is 35 minutes away and my family doctor is 15 minutes.

Vinegar works; plentiful; cheap. Been using it for nearly 8 years.

Well, apparently you are not getting air. Oddly enough I was diagnosed with sleep apnea when I saw an Allergist for a problem with watering eyes. I did an at home sleep study and it determined that I was stopping breathing for thirty seconds or more up to fifty-two times an hour. I've had my c-pap nearly three years now and am very happy with the results in my health.

I often thought about using a camera to watch my sleep. See, if I can gain some insight. The more stuff you can do for yourself, the better.
