LS XR4145HC, Kubota BX1800
So I am new to larger tractors and 3pt implements as well as TBN.
I purchased a 2017 LS XR4145hc and am looking at buying a used 7' Woods Brushbull that a dealer has in on trade.
From what I have read internet knowledge only as I have never brush hogged anything before. Is that size wise you want to keep the path of the cutter wider than the OD of your tire path. Tire path for this model is well over 6" so next step is a 7' cutter.
Is my tractor up to pulling this? PTO min on the implement is 35hp and I think the LS is rated for a little over 38? + 1,000# ~ weight of the implement.
Are any of you using a cutter this big on this model? How is it working out?
My local dealer who only has 5' cutters says that a 7' cutter would be too "clumsy" and difficult to maneuver behind tractor. I think the largest cutter LS makes is a 5' model. Can't wait for feedback on that one...

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

You have listed your tractor has a hydro transmission which is slightly less HP at the PTO than a shuttle shift. If you have hydro you have 36 HP at the PTO. The Woods mower you described requires 35 PTO HP so it would be able to run it but that is really pushing it. You are correct about wanting a mower to take out the width of your tractor but I think you read the specs wrong on your width. The 4145 is listed at 62.5" wide so a 6ft. cutter would be plenty to take out your path. If you are plan on just cutting grass and nothing much larger than saplings you would probably be ok with the 7ft. but I wouldn't take the chance on tearing something up. If you would happen to put to much stress on your PTO output shaft on your tractor that could get expensive. I run a 6ft. and it does everything without being worried about an overkill. I also believe LS also makes rough cuts in 6ft. but not sure about anything larger. I would still prefer a Woods, Bush Hog, or a few other brands over the LS brand mower. Good luck.

Depends on what you're doing.

I have a 6ft wide rotary mower that mows though very thick, tall, green grass on a slope with out any issues whatsoever. It covers the tracks on my XR4145C just fine. A 7ft one, might bog down a bit, but I would probably just slow down though the thick areas.

But again, it all depends on what you're going to be mowing. Flat land with sparse weeds in an open field is different than tall thick green grass on the side of a mountain with obstacles. You're ability to get around objects will be hindered than that of using a 6ft. But definitely not impossible.

If I got a good deal on a good used 7' Woods Brushbull, I'd pull the trigger without thinking too much about it.

I would go with the 6' also.

I have a six foot Landpride on a 44HP(engine) HST Kubota and it's all it wants in heavy going.7ft.bush-hogs are kind of an odd ball if you want more, a 8ft.twin spindle would make more sense.
